Coolant question

Ok ladies and gents,

I changed my coolant today using instructions from the interweb. I mistakenly skipped one of the steps (tilting the bike side to side in order to spread the coolant throughout the rad). Does anyone know if this is a fatal error? I bled the coolant and there were no bubbles burping from the rad inlet so i assume its fine just wanted some comfirmation.

If you burped it you will be OK. Let it idle fully up to temp, when the fans come on (so you know the thermostat opened). Let the bike fully cool down and check the coolant level. Top up as necessary.

Which coolant did you use?

i always run the bike up to close to temp with the rad cap off, let it bubble and get all the air out, shut the bike down, then top up.

I used an automotive coolant at 50/50.

This is what i did and rode around locally for a bit afterwards to be sure that the thing didn't spike in temp.

You have to be careful with automotive coolant. Make sure it says "Silicate Free" on it! If not you can get deposit buildups in your rad core causing your bike to constantly run hot or worse. It also may not contain lubrication components for your motorcycles water pump seals!

Sounds good. If you can't find it on the bottle take a good photo of both sides of it and post it up and I can look up the MSDS and see what it's got in it ;)

I used AC Delco Antifreeze/Coolant it says aluminum compatible and silicate-free. I think it should be fine

If it's about to be ridden, yeah. I won't bother doing that when storing my bike for the winter..... I'll fill it, let it cycle, then dump it as soon as spring comes. After it's all flushed out, in goes the water and wetter and do a full burping.

Nice! Good stuff! It's usually that no-name brand coolant that kills our rads :(

What show do you for at?
 
Saw some prestone 50/50 at walmart, said it was ok for aluminum engines. I assume it would work well for my VFR and my Dad's Burgman 650?

I picked some up to do my GSX-R, but I'm having a hell of a time "burping" it...
Can't seem to figure it out! :mad:
