PP why would you insist on forward controls? Forward controls are 3 of my top 10 reasons to despise cruisers.

Well insurance begs to differ. Age is on his side but a 1290 as his first bike will be ugly.

It's not entirely bull either. If you are hamfisted on a 250, not much happens, bigger bikes give you less opportunities to make mistakes without consequences. All new riders make mistakes while they learn.
