Anyone know why they sewed my pockets to my crotch?

Alright so I bought some Joe Rocket Alter Ego 10.0 pants from Royal Dist.

I'm liking this pants a lot, they are comfortable and they have nifty venting etc. But one rather annoying thing is that they appear to have sewn a string from the corner of the pockets to the crotch of the pants. It's really ****ing annoying since one of the pockets seems to pull to one side making it impossible to use.

Is this normal? Why would they do this?

I'm just tempted to rip off the stupid string so I can have normal pockets.

I just bought a pair of Teknic pants and the pocket is fine.

I would rip it off .

I thought so too, but the thickness of the string makes me believe it was deliberate. I can't figure out what practical purpose there would be to putting what amounts to be a leash on my pockets. Seriously is that a major problem; rider's pockets being out of control? lol

Ride back over and check out the other pairs of the same model pants and see if they're the same.

The additional thread between your crotch and your pocket is a manufacturing quality control defect, albeit a small one.

In an ideal world they would sew the crotch, cut and fasten the stitch closed, then move to do the same for the pocket, before moving on to the next sewing task. For economy and speed the machine might have properly cut the thread after the crotch, leaving you with connecting thread.

I have seen this with other garments but not specifically with motorcycling clothing. The simple solution: Cut the thread at both ends with something sharp. Do not rip it out with force as it might rip something else.

Its deliberate and should keep the pocket flat against the pant so both the pocket and its contents stay in place when either putting pants on or off, even though the pockets have zippers. Too often after putting pants on, I need to stick my hand down into the pocket to straighten them against the pant

+1

A lot of dress pants and blazers have this feature.

The string they use is waxed and has a particular smell, if you go back to the store and just sniff the crotches of all the other pants there you should be able to tell if this is normal. Make sure you sniff every pair of pants they have.

While they get an A+ for the promptness of their reply, the suggested solution is not what I would call convenient. I only have one pair of riding pants and I'd prefer not to go out unprotected. More to follow...

Pics of the crotch please :P no homo

Thought of posting pics but even with the wicked Canon SLR I have it wouldn't be able to get through the mesh lining in the pants to see the offending flaw. But the string that's sewn to the pocket is about 1/8" thick. Very peculiar indeed.

I had a similar issue with a pair of Fieldsheer pants. There was a belt, but was misrouted front to back under the crotch.
Well I have to tell you, I had a cameltoe going that was stopping traffic, uncomfortable too.

Go and sniff...you know you want to...please take film crew or someone call CP 24.

Umm...yeah...No thanks! You know if I were to just go with what Joe Rocket suggested, it would take me 4hrs total of driving to get the pants to and from Royal Distributing in Innisfil. Hardly reasonable.

Hilarious but very awkward.
