And another new adventure bike -- Royal Enfield

It seems like everyone is jumping into the adventure class now. I'm not sure if Royal Enfield even has an importer here in Canada anymore... they used to.

well the 'Indian crap crowd' should be along shortly, Royal Enfield is currently the largest manufacturer of motorcycles in the world so there must be something ok there.
That said, that is not a handsome motorbike. But it will cost around 7k CDN, and it will probably go ok.
There is a dealer in Acton Ont.

I can dig it. I love small to mid-sized bikes. Sadly they don't have much of a following in NA so we only get the most budget friendly beginner sport bikes and the occasional naked bike. I'd rather have a 500cc enduro/adventure bike vs a 1200cc. You can only go so fast in the dirt and weight has always been the Achilles heel of big adventure bikes. At 401ish LBs it is a fair chunk lighter than the rest of the crowd. It has that great, ugly utility look which I like. I have had three British Bulldogs over the years so obviously I'm fond of things that are so ugly their cute! I'd be interested in seat height though. I'm hoping being mid-sized that the seat height will be as well. I'm not the tallest rider out there and the 33-36in seat heights on most adventure bikes and dual sport bikes make it so when the bike is fully upright I can't get more than one set of toes down. Would love to see more information and a review by a reputable magazine/website.

Himalayan. How do they come up with names like that? Should be called Mole Hill.

India has the World's second largest population next to China and a very large portion of their population is poor and motorcycles are cheap transportation. It makes sense that an motorcycle manufacturer from India would be one of the biggest if not the biggest.

Inreb - as for the name, they do the same as North American manufacturers. They just name it after something in their own country that people will recognize the name of. GMC Sierra ring a bell? ;)

*An* Indian motorcycle manufacturer, yes. But Royal Enfield? Are you sure?

three factories now I believe, production of 450,000 bikes last year will increase to almost 900,000 with the new capacity in 2016. 80 dealerships in France, 25 in Spain. Thier parent company is an automotive powerhouse in Asia.

Royal Enfield is considered a premium brand in India, I'm not sure what that means.

they have extremely high import tariffs to protect their manufacturing making all other bikes and vehicles much more expensive, other manufacturers including Harley either have or are opening plants there to get into the market.

Didn't a footpeg break off in the first marketing video a week or so ago? The race to the bottom won't ever reach the finish line at this rate!

Did a little digging and the seat height is stumpy legs friendly at 800mm or 31.5"

They might be the oldest, but I cannot find mention of Royal Enfield in the top of any list regarding motorcycles:

Lots of differently worded google searches suggest the top bike sellers are Honda, Yamaha, Bajaj, and Hero, and by the numbers all are producing multiple millions of bikes per year.

I would not be buying one of these bikes either. I used to own a 1998 Bullet 500, and while it turned a lot of heads and everyone asked about it, it was a bike that could barely accelerate, barely stop (drum brakes), and barely ran. I was glad to get most of my money back when I sold it and move onto something that wasn't designed 70 years ago. Right hand shifting and reverse pattern took a little getting used to as well.

Royal Enfield is a **** indian company. Before you call me racists, im south asian myself.

Royal Enfield sells alot of bikes in india because its cheap. Just like how Tata Motors sells tons of cars in India.

Royal Enfield is working class bike in bike.

People who are middle class buy japanese or if they are wealthy import Ducatis and Harleys.

Because in India and Nepal the Bullet is the #1 choice when riding into the mountains.

OK, I guess Mole Hill is a little weak. How about the Nepal Nipple?

Not even close. Maybe top 10 if they are lucky. As Mike mentioned Honda, Hero, Bajaj, Yamaha, etc.

Anyhow, always good to see more options but this is a bit uninspired. About the only thing it's got on DR650 and KLR650 is the fuel gauge. As always, Royal Enfield more about the style then function. Something that maybe works in the city but not in the middle of nowhere.
Aesthetically it's not bad, I'll admit. Simple but pleasant to the eye.
