5 years out of a Yuasa AGM battery?

I have had my 919 fail to start twice within a month. First time I yanked the battery, fully charged it up on a CTEK charger, put it back in, rode it, then let it sit a week or two. It just barely failed to start both times (turning over but not lighting off). Yanked it again, charged it again, then got Parts Source to test it on a Midtronics EXP-800. The tester measured the battery temperature at -40C so I think its measurement of 170ish CCA is optimistic, but even though I took it off the charger that morning it measured a voltage of 12.43, when it should have been ~12.8.

FWIW it's a YTZ-10S and I think it's pitifully undersized for the bike, but I'm not really happy with only getting 5 years out of it. I paid a hair over $200 for it after tax, thinking that a getting a genuine Yuasa battery would minimize the problems with it being small. The bike is a "spare" and does not get a lot of use, but I do still ride it once in a while, and take the battery out every fall and rotate it on the same CTEK charger. Now I'm wondering if I should just save my money and get something dodgier. What do you think?

I have nothing worthwhile to add to this thread other than my 9 year old OEM battery is still going strong.

Probably because the Yuasa battery that come with your Japanese bike was made in Japan. The Yuasa battery you buy here is made in the US. I’ve always found that the battery that came with my new bike lasts about twice as long as the replacement. Good thing batteries are relatively cheap, if there’s any question about its condition just replace it and move on. Not worth getting stranded.

According to the box it came in, this one was made in Japan

IME, batteries last longer when they're not constantly discharged to almost empty, so they do best when they're on a float or smart-charger when not in use.

The most expensive Yuasa which is constantly run down to empty will have a considerably shorter lifespan than a cheap Chinese no-name battery that's been maintained properly.

Yuasa YT12B-BS in my Ducati is crapping out. I suspect it may be the original in a 2012 model so i guess i can’t ask for more.
What vendor gives me the best chance at getting a direct replacement by the weekend?

GP Bikes probably stocks them.

Before you protest, lemme just say that I have a CT battery in my TL1000S. It was a "ride now or later" decision, and I have zero complaints about it. Considering my $200 Yuasa battery lasted only 5 years I'm happier with the CT battery 🙃

Noted. i am a fan of often being a cheap SOB when it makes no real difference
