I also generally get sore after a few hours but as djez mentioned it just becomes a state of mind, a painful state of mind. Also, not having a backpack helps.

it's the other bearing actually. It is (was) between where the the damper connects to the adapter on the handle bars. It's pretty much the exact set up in the image below. The bearing I'm after is the one right at the centre of the bike. The bolt came loose on the highway and the bearing fell...

Anybody know a shop that services or sells parts for gubellini steering dampers in or around the gta? I need one of the bearings, but have had no luck finding a shop that can help. I've contacted gubellini direct but haven't gotten a response yet.
