What oil should I put in my bike before winter storage?

If you do your own oil changes, and get your filters from a dealership, I usually get at least a 6 pack at a time which usually gets you a discount, and they usually throw in the crush washers for free. Anyone ever run a fumoto (ball type) drain valve? I've run the for years on multiple cars...

    ouch

Very well then. Inreb, I will do my best to not hurt your feelings. But then you gotta wear those nice pants. It's only fair after all.

Oh you mean trying to inform people and help them prevent a costly repair and harm to their pride and joy based on a career in the field? I'm sorry you have a problem with my strong disagreement to the ignorance. Is there another forum buddy here I should try to be nice to as to not offend you?

    ouch

Oh Iceman, that hurt my feelings.:lmao: I'm sorry who was I to think maybe people would want to argue with science when they have anecdotal advice. And yet, here you are now, acting "high and mighty" that I'm "lashing out".

Draining coolant/water for winter and not refilling, any damage?

But "actual field experience" and people with no experience . . . how could that possibly happen?

    ouch

You ask that question, and you wanna give me a hard time for mentioning my profession towards some advice that is directly in line with said profession? I think my opinion of you is probably more accurate than you would like to admit.

Ha ha ha, more like still waiting for you to actually contribute to this thread instead of trying to attack me because I might so happen to know what I'm talking about. Lemme guess, feeling a little inadequate?

Take care when selling a car on your own: Roseman

I think you'd need to include the VIN, names of buyer and seller, and signatures of both as well on the same sheet of paper, then taken into a service ontario location to report the car as sold to be absolutely safe from what I've read.

Draining coolant/water for winter and not refilling, any damage?

I do get that a lot. Just not because I'm an engineer ;) The engineer part usually means people pay me good money for my knowledge regarding automotive/mechanical technical matters. As opposed to terrible attempts at humour deprecating others.

Draining coolant/water for winter and not refilling, any damage?

So storing a bike for months over the winter is the same situation as a bike that sees track time regularly . . . yup seems the same to me. I mean, what do I know, I'm only a automotive specialized mechanical engineer working for a multinational automanufacturer. As others have mentioned when...

Draining coolant/water for winter and not refilling, any damage?

Far from the same situation. And I didn't say it was going to definitely cause problems. But with the major potential for trapped water to freeze over the winter, and without the added protection from the corrosion inhibitors and pump seal lubricants/conditioners, why not just store it with...

Draining coolant/water for winter and not refilling, any damage?

My understanding is that most modern antifreeze/coolant has anti-corrosion inhibitors and pump seal lubricant/conditioners as well. Personally, I would never store long term without coolant but to each his own.

    Canada's motorcycle returns/exchanges?

This is not my opinion, but everything I have read regarding safety for motorcyclists and bicyclists suggests that high visibility is not particularly helpful (it all depends on the predominant background color, and depending on the background high visibility can actually be less visible than...

    Canada's motorcycle returns/exchanges?

There really is no such thing as an "exchange" with CM. Either way you have to ship the item you want to return or exchange at your cost, or for a flat rate of $7, which they charge you out of your refund. An exchange is really just a return with a new purchase when it comes to CM. There is no...

Fabric Guard 303 for waterproofing bike gear

I have used 303's Aerospace Protectant (same company slightly different product) for years on convertible tops. I found it to be an excellent UV protector, seems to renew the look of the top (less frayed/faded), and is a half decent waterproofer. However, if you're ultimately looking for maximum...

Best way to sell/trade car towards a motorcycle?

Any tips on this process? So far it seems most motorcycle dealerships will only basically help by saving me some tax on the sale to a wholesaler for a rock bottom price. I'd definitely get more in trade in value at a car dealership for example. Thanks!
