    Stretched/ovalized head tube

Looks to me like you have a nicely cold forged (pounded) steering head. Consider what that did to the aluminum, and surrounding area, joints, etc. Also consider that welding introduces even more molecular stresses. Next, consider what your life is worth, if something unforeseen lets go at the...

Valve clearance check using brass feeler gauge

Brass, being very soft, has the possibility of peeling if it jams against something. This has the possibility of leaving fragments behind. I wouldn't use them.

    Tremclad for the bike?

John Deere Blitz Black, from a farm implement dealer, gives you a satin black finish, and is 1 step. I did my full size pick-up for under 100. in material. I also used it as a base for my BSA side covers, and cleared it with high gloss. Both turned out very well. Google it , the car guys all use it.

    Bent exhaust fix

Stick about a 4 foot long pipe in 2" diameter, and give a little pressure cold. You will be surprised how easy you can tweak it sometimes. Just take it easy don't break it off the other end. If you get 3 buds with propane torches, you'll get it hot enough also.

Anyone interested in vintage Triumphs 650 500

I have been looking for a winter project, hopefully old and British. I went for a ride on the BSA this morning, and decided to go by a pals place that is pretty well versed in the old Brits. To shorten the story, I'll just say that he has a 650, and a 500 triumph, that he has restored. He has...

2000 929, No power except when pressing starter?

I would be looking for a bad ground, start with the main cable. I wonder if hitting the starter is supplying a ground to the battery somehow? I once found a small guage ground in a harness that was green about 20" up. Larry.
