    Tool Deals Thread

I have most of the (now discontinued, I believe) Ridgid JobMax line, and my favourite tool of the bunch was the ratchet. It's such a pleasure to have when assembling/disassembling things, even if I needed to sometimes swap sockets. If I didn't have the JobMax, I'd buy this.

Covering a bike in permit parking areas?

That's not the simplest first upholstery project!

Covering a bike in permit parking areas?

I was at Studio Cycle today and ran into a parking enforcement person on the street. He admitted that he personally wouldn't bother looking under a cover. If one of them DID look under a cover, they really should look around the bike to see if there was a permit. They could run the plate but...

Covering a bike in permit parking areas?

I have enough cheap covers for bikes and sleds that I could use as material. I'd need to learn how to to sew though. The plus would be, everything I would create would look like such crap that nobody would want to touch whatever's underneath.

Covering a bike in permit parking areas?

There was a guy who parked a bike up the street from me, I always meant to ask him but I never actually saw him. I know there are covers with clear covers on the BACK to show a plate, but the ones I've seen (Oxford Stormex) are almost $200, and I don't think they have a cover for a permit up...

Covering a bike in permit parking areas?

That's why I'd love to get a cover designed to fit the scooter/ebike shape and drops down into the step through/deck. If the strap to secure around the frame was down there as well, it would reduce the cross-section of the overall cover dramatically. But I can't seem to find one. Even the...

Covering a bike in permit parking areas?

I call them Alphabet-soup companies, and I'm very familiar with them as I get offered lots of free stuff from Amazon, much of it sold by companies with names like that. What's funny about your comment is I just today opened up a motorcycle cover I got. It's branded "Nikishap". Aside from that...

Covering a bike in permit parking areas?

That's a thought. I'd only considered the deterrent that having to look under a cover creates. I was thinking of this! I thought if I could get a crappy e- bike branded cover, the Vespa could look like a crappy e-bike covered up! Then I thought about a lot of the people I see riding those...

Covering a bike in permit parking areas?

I'm on a city board. Have you ever tried calling the city? ;). It's a logical suggestion, but forgetting how long it takes to get through, they're going to tell me exactly what the City website says, which is that both permit and plates need to be displayed. They certainly will not tell me...

2026 Navigation SD Card for various Mazda CXes - free

I've got one of these cards for the following vehicles: Mazda CX5 2024-2025, CX30 2024, CX90 2023-2025 Although I don't have one of those vehicles, I got it hoping it would work with my older CX5. No such luck, apparently they did change their systems so newer cards are not compatible with my...

Covering a bike in permit parking areas?

I like the idea of stitching a laminated copy of my permit, but they'd still need to either lift the cover or I'd have to introduce a transparent portion to make the plate visible. They should make covers with transparent vinyl in the back! EDIT: Apparently, they do. Oxford Stormex is the...

A good motorcycle story from the general media

I could be wrong but I understood the claim was he was doing 1K each and every day and not just averaging 1K per day. The former would seem to be almost impossible given inevitable mishaps like the ones he described. Then again, the interview was going on about needing to add 500 miles that...

Covering a bike in permit parking areas?

I live downtown where we only have permit parking - no garage, no driveway. I brought my bike into the city with the plan to commute on that instead of the car. I want to cover it - partly for theft reasons, but partly because the shedding from trees on our street is absolutely terrible. How...

A good motorcycle story from the general media

I like how the interviewer said the front of the bike was covered in bugs, and "looks like 128K". I'm wondering why it looks so clean. I can get that many bugs in a half hour anywhere outside of the city. Even if he's riding all slab, I'm amazed the bike doesn't look a lot worse. He can't...

Hardened masking tape on fairings - best way to remove?

I ended up soaking it with WD-40, over and over. Eventually I soaked a paper towel with the stuff and laid it over the affected area. Came back a few weeks later and it all rubbed off with my thumb - it had transformed into something that felt like dried up rubber-cement. Thanks all. Sold...

Hardened masking tape on fairings - best way to remove?

I really should get the plastic off to work on it separately but it's such a major pain... I'd rather go in for a root canal.
