    Algonquin Park Fall Colours

I was up to North Bay this weekend. Leaves are turning, but still lots of green.

DO NOT automatically renew, DO start a new policy with the same company

Point taken about magnitude of difference in premiums between companies. Is it true that switching policies is a red flag for companies and switching policies often moreso? I can imagine that it could be - but then that would run counter to the reality that these companies run expensive ad...

DO NOT automatically renew, DO start a new policy with the same company

My last bike was a Kawasaki Z400. Riders also had the best quote on that. That's the sum total of my experience insuring road bikes. But I do understand different companies are looking for different risk profiles to round out their portfolios. I understood the whole purpose of brokers like...

DO NOT automatically renew, DO start a new policy with the same company

A few years back I called maybe 8 different places -both insurance companies (including TD, I believe) and brokers. Riders Plus had the best quotes for me then and with the Multistrada I bought in 2024 I did (and still do) have stuff with Desjardins as well as a broker who has our house and...

DO NOT automatically renew, DO start a new policy with the same company

Who are you with? Today I called the broker who has gotten me the best rates in the past (Riders Plus) to see what the incremental cost would be to add a Vespa GTS 250. They quoted me $700 with no comprehensive, ~$800 with comprehensive. I have a Multistrada 1200 with them for about $1050...

What did you do in your garage today..?

It's a good thought about temperature sensitivity. I have thought about whether tire pressures were too low at the start of the ride, which then goes away as the tires warmed up. It does seem like the problems seem more common at the start of rides. They would often go away as the ride...

It does. Thank you @GreyGhost - I’ll give it a shot!

What did you do in your garage today..?

Yeah that’s the style I have. The ones that worked for me are these: MEGADORA IMPACTA No.980(Ph No.2 x 100) | PRODUCTS INFORMATION | VESSEL CO., INC. And they make great screwdrivers for normal application. I know you lose torque but if you can’t get to where you need to be it doesn’t matter...

What did you do in your garage today..?

I don’t know how to test head bearings but mean to learn. Tire pressure is fine. What confuses me in all this is just how inconsistent it is for me. Nobody on the forums describes this kind of inconsistency. For me it can be bad for a while, then completely go away for a few hours, then get...

What did you do in your garage today..?

My advice - get the long handled ones, not the short squat ones. Makes getting to the right spot easier. I had to borrow a neighbour’s Vessel Megadora to get to some screws the other day. I have the squat Vessel that takes interchangeable bits but could not maneuver it properly.

What did you do in your garage today..?

This one is the 09 GTS 250ie. Bike has the heaviest bar ends Piaggio sells according to dealer- that’s how I came to being told my front shock was done. I’m skeptical there as I would think the symptoms would be much more consistent- instead for me, it pnly happens sometimes. I had the screen...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Decided to change the coolant on my "new" Vespa as the dealer had said it hadn't been done in 4 or 5 years. Also went to run an SAE cable up behind the wind screen. What a pain. Had to remove so much plastic to get access. I thought the Multistrada was bad and that this would be easy...

What did you do in your garage today..?

That's good to know - I had no idea. Never occurred to me until your post to check - and found that the solenoid for my 1987 CBR600F project (dead due to having lost all the plastics) appears to cross-reference to the 84 VF500F. I know my CBR600 started up with no problem. I wonder how many...

What did you do in your garage today..?

My sister gifted me her 09 Vespa GTS 250ie as she was tired of putting her summer ride on her lift to make room. I had already put maybe 1000 miles on it over the last several years. She was complaining that it kept stopping. Opened the battery compartment, tightened the screws to the battery...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Kreg pocket screw system is great. The jigs and screws are fairly priced and easy to use. I have a Festool Domino, a bunch of the fancy guides for it, and a few dowel jigs, but the Kreg is my choice if I can hide the pocket holes or just don't care.

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

I see what you're seeing in the picture, but I don't see it in person. The shoulder and threads all seem to be uniform in thickness, to my eye. The photo also really hides the length of the shoulder. I know it's a matter of perspective but in person you don't get that effect either.

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

I am happy to report - I freed the screw today! Since my last post I decided I was going to take a break from actively working on it. I decided that on weekends where I could see the bike, I would keep hitting it with whatever combination of penetrating oil, heat, and tapping on it with a...

    New Ducati Hypermotard V2

I appreciate that the guy got right down to the topic at hand. All the extra fluff edited down whereas others would take every opportunity to milk something to make more money from my eyeballs.

    Simcoe trial Sept 14

So cute, but all I could think of when I saw that picture is poison ivy. That's my biggest fear riding single track.

The Reasonably Priced Used Motorcycles for Sale Thread

I met a guy in the Kawarthas a few years ago. To get into his driveway, he has to sit *in* a blind corner while waiting to make a left. The day before, a woman in a Harley came along and hit the back of his car. She died. Her husband apparently crashed into her, I don’t know if he ended up...
