You are correct. The two metal connectors interlock and there is no way they can separate unless you squeeze both tabs to disengage them. The plastic is not used in the connection and has no function other than to provide a means to get the helmet off.

When I lived in Toronto I was able to rent a garage from a lady that didn't own a car but had a garage in the back of her property. It was nice because it also gave me a place to work on the bike and had power running to it from the house.
