    WV Long Weekend

I heard people mentioning the 219, which is a nice scenic ride and saves a bit with tolls, but if timelines are tight, using the interstates winds up being quicker due to the higher speed limits and not having numerous intersections to stop at, despite actually being more driven miles. Might...

    West Virginia run

You're right, dealing with weather is part of the shtick when you ride long distances for multiple days. When I travel I like to do a bit of photography and stuff or maybe a small hike to a scenic viewpoint and you really aren't going to have the opportunity to do these things which I consider a...

    West Virginia run

It would seem logical to check the forecast first, I'd think. Forecast down there (and along the way) seems to be for rain for the days indicated. If I were touring by bike, I'd reconsider given the rain. This time of year, if you're wet, you'll be very cold and your belongings/spare clothes...

    Helmet bug juice!

Agreed, nothing really eyepopping as far as bug accumulation in his video. I've had far worse on mine, literally a few tiny gaps the size of the head of a pin & having to stop at 10 minute intervals, not once an hour. Watching that video, he seems a little overly dramatic about it.

    Motorcycle armor vs hockey gear.

Hockey gear likely won't fit inside or underneath any riding jacket that's appropriately sized for you (as a corolary, gear fit is pretty important, so you wouldn't really want to upsize a jacket lets say to fit large hockey padding inside). It's simply too bulky and if you could make it fit...

    Helmet bug juice!

Take a rag or even paper towel, dampen it with warm water, place it over the visor or other affected area for a minute or so. Remove the damp rag and now the dried up bug goop (that could scratch the visor if wiped while dry) is now loosened up and is a quick wipe away from clean. After drying...

Saul Ste. Marie Trip, Advice Please

If you're into 'riding the rails', the Agawa Canyon Train is a good bet (Algoma Central Railway). Very scenic. Kinda pricey though..

looking to do a trip this weekend need advice

Not neccesarily so to encounter a long delay into Michigan, if you enter at Sarnia-Port Huron crossing. I would never even consider a Detroit-Windsor crossing on a wknd, unless you like long delays and manic customs inspectors. Furthermore, if he crosses at SSM, and heads counter-clockwise, he...

Write off your Eastern US plans - this sucker is huge

I heard 10" in some areas is easily possible. Not that surprising given how long the storm has been strengthening over warm Atlantic waters.

looking to do a trip this weekend need advice

Not that I'm too concerned, but why do you recommend going counter-clockwise?? Chicago traffic is usually a chore as well, so be warned. Especially since this is the last non-holiday wknd of the summer. Lots of people will be heading onto the roads to savour the last glimmer of summer.

looking to do a trip this weekend need advice

This weekend may not be the greatest time for touring along the eastern seaboard with Hurricane Irene expected to make landfall. Could be widespread power outages, washed out roads, downed trees and low vacancy rates at motels (people leaving their homes to a safer distance/mandatory...

looking to do a trip this weekend need advice

Pretty ambitious trip plan there for 3 days. Hope it doesn't end in tears for you. If you do make it, you'll be dead tired and likely will be rushing to make your end-points for each day. Many good photo/stopping opportunities will be lost in the name of staying on plan.

Anyone Interested in a few days in Pennsylvania?

Seems like sensible ground rules to me. Last thing one needs is a DWI, a crash, injury/hospitalization, or an unrideable bike hundreds of miles from home. Definitely will be costly and make for an unpleasant experience. Why not safeguard against this scenario as best one can?

    Can oil go bad?

Oil shouldn't really go bad, per se, but can become outdated or be superceded by a new API standard. Current standard for cars I believe is 'API SN', so if you had old oil rated at API standard 'SH' (which would probably be about 10 yr old oil) and your new car owners' manual calls for an API...

Riders down, one dead, Calabogie Motorsports. :(

Re: calabogie tragedy Even an organized track environment cannot entirely nullify the inherent risks of motorcycling. Thoughts are with the riders and families.

    Teknic Speedstar Gloves (2XL)

I am likely to be in DT Toronto within the next couple of weeks. If anyone was interested, but the 2hr round-trip ride to pick them up was an impediment, you can now acquire these without the added fuel expense & time commitment to pick them up from Niagara.

    Am I a little paranoid?

Yes, but going through your insurance is a hassle. It takes time & you rarely get the value you feel your bike is worth. Plus, some people actually get attached to their vehicle, replacement value for them really doesn't suffice. Better to take preventative steps to avoid that run-around.

    Got Sprayed

If this incident warrants OP in posting this topic, maybe find a new hobby. Getting doused by a little washer fluid is really nothing compared with some of the other things you may find flying straight towards your head (think wasps, birds, deer, hail & so on..). I hope you recover...
