I suggest wait out until you finish the course to see if you like riding or not. The course is a good eye opener and you can practice it on a entry level bike without the fear of dropping it, grinding gears, stalling, etc. IMO, you don't need top of the line protective gears. Also, check Royal...

I don't mind getting pass or letting people change into my lane as long as they "SIGNAL". Too many ******* will just cut in front of you aggressively like two feets in front of your bumper! On my bike, I feel people want to pass me even more for some strange reason, maybe it feels good to pass...

Have you look into the used 250cc bikes (Honda or Kawi)? If you're only going to use it for one or two seasons, I would not buy new. Also, check insurance first.......
