Yeah man I'm back in LA now, I realized after I left that basically motorcyclists in Canada who don't split are just afraid to or lack the slow speed skills to do it safely.
learning to ride in CA where it's legal gives a huge advantage; basically the opponents of splitting and filtering are...
first of all, good for you for staying in touch with the guy and trying to do the right thing.
to check on his figures ask him for a complete parts list (looks like he supplied this) and start calling around, see if you can fix the thing cheaper yourself. 2k seems a bit steep for a tip over...
making small gestures of respect and not cowering in fear at the very thought of interacting with your fellow human is hardly "being crowded" or "making friends and being chummy".
the person beside you, for whatever reason, is also risking their life.
it's funny, because the people who are...
It's a brotherhood, man...if you think this way it's time to sell the bike and get into sports cars or other douchey hobbies
I hate big HDs with no mufflers but I'll still roll up and at least give a nod or a peace sign at lights
I found one road that almost qualifies and it was a decent length, almost a canyon, can't gas it in the straights though because people live on it.
I forget what it's called but it cuts over toward Westport from 7A
Ok so last update, I am leaving tomorrow back to California from my vacation here.
Covered about 5000km since I've been here...from Ottawa to Kitchener down to Dutton, into Michigan, etc...
The main points I've noticed:
- Most people here rider cruisers and goldwings, I saw maybe 3 sportbikes...
Great info, thank you. I agree it will be depressing...BUT, there are race tracks up here and I can continue to do track days so it won't be too bad. If I never rode track in CA and just did canyons and then had to move back here...oh man, yeah that would suck. I will miss Buttonwillow...
hey guys, little update here: I've been back for a visit for the past week or so, riding a borrowed FZ8...drivers here are definitely more polite than LA, and actually nobody seems to care when I filter up to the front of lights. I've been restraining myself and not splitting when the cars are...
thanks for being honest, my parents ride as well and it took them some adjusting when they came down here to visit!
it's too bad, because by filtering we are taking ourselves out of the traffic equation and not taking up a space, if it's done properly. I filter "politely" - if a car has their...
thanks Sal, I don't have to come back but my entire family is in Ontario and they're not getting any younger...
You saw the good part of LA if you were driving around Malibu and the 1, gotta be affluent to live in that area, but if you can get score a job that pays 100-200k in Santa Monica or...
Please don't ruin bikes for future owners by installing these kits...I had to remove one from one of my bikes when I bought it. In most cases the OEM light setup generates more light anyway
anyway I've been gone for awhile so if my attitude seems extreme that is why.
can anyone post with experience that I originally asked for - aggressive drivers trying to move or run you off the road? this concerns me more than any legal ramifications...400 lb bike vs 3000lb car = no brainer...
LOL
Looks like one possible positive reason to move back would be people's sense of humor? That photoshopped sign is hilarious
To the person who said everything is better - I agree with you, living in LA is preferable to the GTA, but I don't plan to live in the GTA, just be riding there from...
The title says it all..years ago I moved to Cali and started riding after that, been thinking of returning to Canada for various reasons, but some of the things I read on here are a little disturbing to say the least...it looks like insurance is so cost prohibitive that I would need to keep the...
