What did you do in your garage today..?

I have a feeling it'd be way too easy to get myself into trouble way too fast with that thing, LOL. It's cool though!

What did you do in your garage today..?

I don't mind if the bottom of the fork leg gets discoloured. Nobody's going to look there, and my bike has her share of pock marks already. Dirt on the underside isn't going to bother me. I'm more worried that there's a chance heat could compromise the fork leg itself.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Sounds like some voodoo magic right there! I've got to learn more about how that works. The few videos I've found, the tool looks gigantic.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Also - at my cottage we've been having some leaks during rains. My usual guy has been up there several times, each time claiming he had fixed it, but taking literal months to look at things each time water came through. So I decided to pull the plug on that guy. I'm very loyal to my guys...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Ooh - I like it - another rabbit hole to go down! After googling - looks like you need decent access to the fastener, which I don't really have. What would you do with those coils you show? Same idea? I am *hopeful* heating will help under the theory that my fastener is galled. I discovered...

What did you do in your garage today..?

I tried out a “Hakko 936” soldering iron I bought NIB on Marketplace. A soldering iron is a good thing to have around, but my immediate plan for it was to use the hot tip against a seized bolt to try and free it. So I wanted to play with it and maybe solder up some connections for...

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

For some reason, I was excited by this realization that might seem obvious. This fastener has probably been seized for a while, and THAT’S why the cap head was rounded in the first place!!

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

You can see the threads in the slot so cutting in there will leave me with just threads - no shoulder. Now I fully acknowledge I’m a newbie doing this so happy to hear opinions- that’s what’s great about this forum, so many knowledgeable people. My thought in cutting there was to relieve the...

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

Is there a risk that banging on the Torx bit will compromise the threads and create another problem for me?

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

I think this is the way I'm going to have to do it. Planning to: 1-cut the bolt in half through the slot. This should relieve most of the pressure on the threaded part. 2- if I didn't catch the side of the hole with my extractor, I should be able to pull the top out easily. 3- Use a...

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

The nice thing this guy has, is a guide for the drill. I don't have a way to fit a guide in there. Maybe if I drill/dremel the head off and then make one from something that fits that recess perfectly.

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

I had a realization last night prompted by some posts here. I hadn't pulled the other fasteners free so I didn't know the fastener wasn't threaded all the way through. I'd been spraying penetrating oil from the top of the fastener, but that would require the oil to work its way under the head...

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

I've been busy since my last post trying this and that, but sad to say, no better off. I was able to cut a slot using a few burrs from my set. @GreyGhost is right, nearly impossible to do without nicking the surrounds, but that's fine. My bike has enough nicks already. Set it with more...

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

Just checked the assortment of discs I have. Smallest one is too big to get in there. I guess I could cut it smaller?

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

Looks like I'm shopping for tools. Looking now for a hand impact. I had a Vessel but I lost it last year. Grr. I have a crappy rotary tool and this set of accessories but have no idea what I ought to be using here. I see some burrs but as with all things Mastercraft, not sure how good they...

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

What about JB Welding a hex key in there and then trying it after it’s cured? Just worried how much more I can mess it up.

Broke bolt extractor - what to do?

So was taking off the front wheel on my bike. The hex recess on one of the pinch bolts was rounded on the inside - not my doing. What was my doing : I tried using a bolt extractor after soaking it in penetrating oil and heating a bit. Yup, the worst happened and the extractor itself snapped...

Where do you guys go for new tires?

First visit there a few years ago - the salesperson there was very helpful, and prices were competitive. I expected them to be a go-to place for me. One day I went in looking for something, they ordered it for me and gave me an ETA. They kept saying it was coming in "soon" and giving me ETAs...

Where do you guys go for new tires?

I love GP, and I have been known to price match. But I’m usually inclined to give my business to the place that offers the lower price from the get-go, over the place that will make me jump through hoops to get the same price. Now if we’re talking big box stores like CT or HD, I have no...
