    Any machinists in the house?

I’m planning on making some pieces which will probably range from 2-4”, so I expect maybe a half dozen cuts or so? These are trial runs while I learn to machine metal, and while I experiment with dimensions. The largest diameter I need to get to is about 1-2/3”- originally I thought they would...

Where do you guys go for new tires?

Nice. I’m going to apply. Having said that, Pete’s wrote the invoice in a funny way. There’s a “combined total” line item for x$, and then two line items describing the Dunlops , each at 0$. I wonder why they did it that way - maybe their price includes the rebate baked in? Edit: it also...

    Any machinists in the house?

I just can't afford the space for a metal chop saw or a bandsaw. The bar I have is pretty heavy. I have just enough distance between centers to handle the length, but I figured it would be much easier to work with smaller pieces. I’m not sure how well that little motor could spin that weight.

    Any machinists in the house?

I bought 16" of 2" diameter mild steel from "Mr Metal" near Sherway. Learned a few things. 1) Cutting steel without a good vise is hard. 2) Cutting steel with a hacksaw blade is hard. 3) Cutting steel with a hacksaw blade oriented the wrong way is even harder. I was very disappointed the...

What did you do in your garage today..?

Again, that's super generous. I wouldn't borrow it because my terrain is so varied, with lots of rocks and hard roots you don't even see until it's too late. The problem is made worse by the fact that my tractor was out of commission until recently, so I've only recently been able to properly...

    I just bought a 1984 Honda V30 Interceptor

I hesitate to post, especially as I don't have it in hand, but I am so excited. I struck a deal to buy a 500/V30 Interceptor this weekend. It's a bit of a haul. That bike was my dream bike as a kid. I loved the original 750, but when the 500 came out, there as just something about it -...

Where do you guys go for new tires?

Thank you both. One of those places ought to be able to sort me out.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Thanks @GreyGhost. Such generous people here. The problem is, I have 3 acres of varied terrain and my tractor has gone through all of it. If I'm walking the property, my wife is going to insist it be with a weed whacker on a harness. What I really need is something like this, only with...

What did you do in your garage today..?

LOL. I took a white drop cloth - maybe 8x10 or so? - and laid it out, then rolled my bike onto it. I figured when the inevitable happened, the bolt/nut/screw would be easy to spot. Somehow whatever it was that I dropped, bounced OFF the soft drop cloth and onto the gravel. Anybody ever try...

What did you do in your garage today..?

It would be interesting to see how much metal I pull up. There's large pieces of metal which have somehow disappeared from my lawn tractor. Embarrassingly large.

What did you do in your garage today..?

I unfortunately have to work on a gravel driveway. Those little fasteners are damn near invisible on gravel. Also fascinating is just how far a little screw can bounce.

Where do you guys go for new tires?

I remember cursing all afternoon trying to replace the tire on a little garden tractor. Soft, small tire with rims I absolutely didn’t care about. I get little enough time to ride as it is. I do want to remove the wheel myself, not so much to save the money but so that I can do it if I end up...

Where do you guys go for new tires?

    Who’s your guy in Barrie?

Where do you guys go for new tires?

Yeah, I know most places will charge me more to mount tires I didn’t buy from them, so now I am on the hunt for a guy in the Orillia area who charges reasonable money for tires. Is this something any tire guy can do? In an emergency I found a small place in Orillia that I liked when I recently...

Where do you guys go for new tires?

I don't know how you guys feel about reviving old threads - some hate it, but I don't see the purpose of starting a new thread over adding to an old thread with valuable information in it. Anyhow...I needed to replace the tires on my bike. I found this very thread that recommended Pete's . I...

    Darksiders beware...

I mostly ride in the Simcoe/Muskoka/Kawartha areas, and I seek out the twisties available, but the amount of time I'm leaned over is minuscule compared to the time I'm not, and that's not by choice. This has to be true for the vast majority of riders, moreso for riders who are riding anything...

What did you do in your garage today..?

I don’t care about the holes. That’s a better idea then trying to use plastic weld or JB Weld plastic putty over an entire hole.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Ugh. As usual, you’re right. I didn’t think about that. Maybe I could plastic weld it. I have four bins at our cottage we never use and my wife wanted to toss (we haul trash and recycling back to the city because of inconvenient cottage collection day).

What did you do in your garage today..?

“new” charger worked great. I experimented with a rusty vise- results were pretty good for a first real try, and I only had my e-tank running for maybe six hours. Results were encouraging enough for me to take apart the vise and plan another go. I also picked up a big 151L Rubbermaid tote for...

    Any machinists in the house?

I had a chance to meet @85K100 today- he showed me around his garage and very generously gave me some cutting tools that will hopefully fit my tool posts, and gave me a lot of advice. We talked for a few hours about machining, bikes, and a bunch of other things. Thank you @85K100 - it was a...
