The Reasonably Priced Used Motorcycles for Sale Thread

This looks like a lot of fun for not a lot of money. Grab a buddy/monkey, find a set of studded ice tires and let 'er rip...

What would stop someone from going to another shop for a safety before heading to the dealer for a buyout or to turn it in? "Issues" or not, the safety would be in-hand, and drawing on PP's recent experience, the new system sounds pretty iron clad, I ask because my wife has a Mazda CX something...

Agreed. I've been watching Guild Garage (or something) on Crave recently, and I'm often floored by some of the vehicles that go driving around. Fenderless hotrods, oddball vintage cars, bizarre one-off bitsa builds and supremely expensive supercars all toolin' around with Ontario plates. Does...

Further to your point, I think this identifies the issue in many cases; the retailer/consumer relationship is frequently a gigantic, unpleasant PITA. In the case of certifications done in a small shop, it's often the owner who processes your payment and talks about the work. I wouldn't want to...

I was at my local garage picking up my Tacoma after some work and asked the tech about certifications. He said that they're already on the new program, and it's a bit more expensive as it takes 2 people to complete the inspection on a car. I asked him about motorcycles as I've had them certify...

Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

Either the professional in question was having a bad day, or they have an odd sense of humor.

That's the trouble though. Fewer MC shops will be doing inspections and issuing certifications because it's just not worth the hassle. Bigger places like GP will continue to do them at increase cost, but won't be interested in doing them on what they consider older bikes. Smaller shops, and...

    Certifications starting March 2025....

Yeah, not really sure to be honest. I would think that the increased insurance cost would be a minor expense compared to the added cost of technology and hassle involved.

    Certifications starting March 2025....

I just got off the phone with Ken's Motoworks in Whitby. He's not doing certifications going forward because of the new rules. The insurance requirements alone would double his insurance costs, plus it's going to be nearly impossible to certify an "old" bike. I'm not sure how old is old but for...

What's in your Toolkit and if you even have it?

My 1090 came with a tool kit that will take care of all trailside stuff, plus I've added a plug kit and small compressor. Did they stop including a tool kit on the 1290 or did he just not take it along?

    New bike day!

Thanks, I've heard that before and will keep an eye. Never had an issue with my K100 but it had the later mounting brackets.

    New bike day!

All available from BMW. Not body parts or luggage type stuff but for the most part better than lots of other makes.

I assume you mean I should seek him out for mechanical or practical input/ opinion as opposed to fashion advice.:) Also, in some of your posts you refer to a magnetic tank bag that you like. Which one is it?

    New bike day!

Thanks Al. I intend to check the date on the tires since they are barely worn. I will check the plug gaps as well since its so simple. Nice to have maintenance stuff easily accessible.

    New bike day!

Actually I picked it up yesterday. 1983 BMW r100rs. Original and unmolested Canadian bike with 46,000km, but shows a bit of age while being well kept. Original paint, and still has the manual, complete tool kit and roll and tire pump. Also came with side cases. I've looked at a handful of them...

Toronto Motorcycle and Powersports Show - Feb 14-16

Interested in the Honda NT1100. Disappointed that BMW, Ducati and Kawasaki aren't there, and surprised that CF-Moto isn't there since they're trying to establish a presence here.

2025 might be the Year Of The Deal

What you're doing on the 401 waiting for it to be over. Not much fun, no interesting scenery to look at, you're aware of your surroundings but you're just using that highway because you're trying to get somewhere.

2025 might be the Year Of The Deal

I figure versatility, and that's what I take advantage of. Long rides, short rides, droning on the highway, roaming back roads or exploring trails and unopened roads or farm roads.

There's Just One Thing Moto Manufacturers Should Do To Get More Riders on Bikes

Regarding seat height, I had no problems throwing my leg over my KTM 950 Adventure, even with the side cases mounted. With my 1090 that's simply not possible, even with some re-working of the rear end (the bike not mine). I'd say the 950 Adventure is a more capable bike off road than the 1090...
