Ninja 500R... first time oil change. Help a newbie pick the right brands?

So when the oil turns black it's not due to mixing with particles/debris in the engine? If flushing removes any extra build up/debris than its not burning money in my mind. Especially when for all I know it was the first oil change after 17,000km. I'm aware it's not spec, but a legion of Ninja...

    What's your biggest fear?

DAMNIT!! WTF is a douchevest - I searched the forum and the only result took me to a post that said I don't have access to it!! It'd be funny if he said 'I bet $100 I can take a slap from you like a champ!'

Girls, when you dropped your bike, who helped you lift it up?

Depending on what exactly happened this is more about counterweight than strength... The first time (day after I bought it) I was taking it down off the rear stand it started to tip away from me (heart started racing, I just bought it mint condition) but I just grabbed the handle and leaned all...

    Justifying motorcycling

+1 +1. That was basically my rationale. I've always wanted one. My buddy in Ottawa posted a pic of his new Ninja 250 and I said ... **** it! 2 weeks later I had my own little Ninja 250 :) edit: and it ended up being a lot cheaper (including insurance) than I'd always thought motorcycling was.

    299 in Victoria driver CHARGED

Valid. I wouldn't ride without insurance anyway. But I know people who do and can't stop bitching and complaining about the cost/$5000 ticket they have to fight.

    Justifying motorcycling

How old are you? I'm 26 (read: over 25) for simple basic liability the first day I got my M1 I was quoted $1259 for insurance. For full coverage (including theft, fire) I was quoted $1616. I ended up going with TD where they force all policies to expire/renew in Feb. so I only had to pay for 7...

    299 in Victoria driver CHARGED

People should just move to Vancouver. I'd have to get caught 3 times without insurance before it'd make more sense to have the insurance!

Girls, when you dropped your bike, who helped you lift it up?

Don't worry, you'll always think someone who looks strangely like that hott actor guy you like is coming to save the day! ;)

    299 in Victoria driver CHARGED

$598 for driving with no insurance!?! That'd be $5000 in Ontario, no?

    What's your biggest fear?

I've never been anesthetized (is that a word?) but my fear of it wouldn't be feeling like death, it'd be suffering anesthesia awareness where you still get to feel them cutting you open but can't move or let them know you're feeling everything. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anesthesia_awareness

What would you do if . . .

I like it. I think I'll do the same. You may just save the bike and hopefully not get stabbed, although there is still the possibility.

Ninja 500R... first time oil change. Help a newbie pick the right brands?

PS. I'm glad I did the flush in my case, after 20 minutes of riding the flush oil was a good dark brown already.
