    Certifications starting March 2025....

I just got off the phone with Ken's Motoworks in Whitby. He's not doing certifications going forward because of the new rules. The insurance requirements alone would double his insurance costs, plus it's going to be nearly impossible to certify an "old" bike. I'm not sure how old is old but for...

What's in your Toolkit and if you even have it?

My 1090 came with a tool kit that will take care of all trailside stuff, plus I've added a plug kit and small compressor. Did they stop including a tool kit on the 1290 or did he just not take it along?

    New bike day!

Thanks, I've heard that before and will keep an eye. Never had an issue with my K100 but it had the later mounting brackets.

    New bike day!

All available from BMW. Not body parts or luggage type stuff but for the most part better than lots of other makes.

    New bike day!

I assume you mean I should seek him out for mechanical or practical input/ opinion as opposed to fashion advice.:) Also, in some of your posts you refer to a magnetic tank bag that you like. Which one is it?

    New bike day!

Thanks Al. I intend to check the date on the tires since they are barely worn. I will check the plug gaps as well since its so simple. Nice to have maintenance stuff easily accessible.

    New bike day!

Actually I picked it up yesterday. 1983 BMW r100rs. Original and unmolested Canadian bike with 46,000km, but shows a bit of age while being well kept. Original paint, and still has the manual, complete tool kit and roll and tire pump. Also came with side cases. I've looked at a handful of them...

Toronto Motorcycle and Powersports Show - Feb 14-16

Interested in the Honda NT1100. Disappointed that BMW, Ducati and Kawasaki aren't there, and surprised that CF-Moto isn't there since they're trying to establish a presence here.

2025 might be the Year Of The Deal

What you're doing on the 401 waiting for it to be over. Not much fun, no interesting scenery to look at, you're aware of your surroundings but you're just using that highway because you're trying to get somewhere.

2025 might be the Year Of The Deal

I figure versatility, and that's what I take advantage of. Long rides, short rides, droning on the highway, roaming back roads or exploring trails and unopened roads or farm roads.

There's Just One Thing Moto Manufacturers Should Do To Get More Riders on Bikes

Regarding seat height, I had no problems throwing my leg over my KTM 950 Adventure, even with the side cases mounted. With my 1090 that's simply not possible, even with some re-working of the rear end (the bike not mine). I'd say the 950 Adventure is a more capable bike off road than the 1090...

There's Just One Thing Moto Manufacturers Should Do To Get More Riders on Bikes

LOL. It was usually when scouting trails and normally we'd be at least 40 minutes into something really good only to come upon an insurmountable obstacle. Often after crossing (mostly stinky) water that came up to the bottom of the tank. Good times....for the most part.

I've done that plenty of times in the past, but only grudgingly.

There's Just One Thing Moto Manufacturers Should Do To Get More Riders on Bikes

I remember that thing! It was designed by Dan Gurney and powered by an XR650L single. It would have been an interesting ride for sure.

There's Just One Thing Moto Manufacturers Should Do To Get More Riders on Bikes

The thing is, would one of the ADV bikes REALLY suffer in off road performance with a couple inches shorter suspension and ground clearance? I think a lot of the towering seat heights is because of the current styling trends. The back end of the bike is angled up to accentuate the notion that...

There's Just One Thing Moto Manufacturers Should Do To Get More Riders on Bikes

That's been my ongoing experience as well. A couple years ago I followed the Pick Axe route from the Ride the Highlands website. I made a wrong turn on a forest access road and wound up on a dead end, off camber ATV trail. I would normally have got off and bulldogged it around to get pointed in...

There's Just One Thing Moto Manufacturers Should Do To Get More Riders on Bikes

I looked at lowering my 2018 KTM 1090 this spring. $2000 plus tax or more to have it lowered properly, meaning shock and fork internals, custom length springs and shortened side stand to maintain the stock geometry. I watched a video of a guy who had lowered one and he said it was...

There's Just One Thing Moto Manufacturers Should Do To Get More Riders on Bikes

I agree that the seat heights have crept up quite a bit. Occasionally a manufacturer will offer a low seat on an ADV model, but the arse-up nature of those bikes, combined with comically long travel suspension still means you have to climb up onto it like you were mounting a horse. It seems...

KTM's Parent Company Isn't Doing Hot, Shifting More Production to China and India

"what caused KTM’s downfall was its debt rose from 255 million to 1.7 billion euros between 2023 and the end of October 2024." Good god!! How could ANY honest, intelligent corporate manager allow that to happen? There's got to be massive corruption involved, as those numbers are so far offside.
