    Lock for helmet?

Love the gun shield idea. I'm gonna pick one up as my 1090 doesn't have a helmet lock, only a thin little cable that hooks on under the seat. $10 is a cheap and convenient solution. Thanks!

KTM now part of the Bajaj group of India

No, I didn't ask. Closest I got was looking at a parked 1300GSA and asking the owner how he liked it. He responded, "Better to ride than look at."

KTM now part of the Bajaj group of India

I disagree. They'll certainly keep the small displacement street stuff they already build as that's their bread and butter, but the off road stuff is still a big deal and the reason the marque exists. I expect they'll keep the off road and 690 stuff being built in Austria. They'll rationalize...

KTM now part of the Bajaj group of India

EVERYTHING eventually needs parts. That said, I'm certain that parts for my KTM 1090 will not have the longtime availability that my Norton 850 or my BMW R100RS enjoy. It's not a KTM thing though, it's a modern approach to machinery. I recently read that John Deere has discontinued parts...

    Fake ads!

I'd love to participate more in this thread, but I just got some concerning emails. Apparently Canada Post, UPS, DHL, and FedEx are holding packages for me that they will incinerate if I don't pay the duties NOW. I can't even remember ordering stuff, but I must have because they all have the...

    Itchy Boots new book

It's more about bureaucracy than any rational decision making by a human with authority. As with most everything concerning a large organization like government, the drone behind the counter always give the answer, "The computer says so.", no matter the words he chooses or script he reads.

    Solo trip from Toronto

My favorite route in Ontario is along Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence to the Quebec border. It's very scenic, good pavement and accommodation options. You could then turn left and follow the Ottawa river up to Ottawa and turn left into the Highlands as they call them, or continue north to...

    Can am canyon adventure trike

Totally agree. The Ural with its reverse gear is far more suited to diverse terrain than the Can-Am. I'd rather a Miata than the Can-Am or the Harley trike, but would rather a Ural than all 3.

    Can am canyon adventure trike

No. Given all the nanny electronics I would expect you'd get hung up on a curb, and if a wheel spun or lost traction the poor thing would completely freak out.

What did you do in your garage today..?

Maybe the Buell sign is casting bad mojo.

Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

You will be IGNORED...until I realize that one of those IGNORED offers is as high as the price is going to get and I'm already under water with this and sinking fast.

I guess the chopped cafe racer thing is officially dead, eh?

I've seen some nicely done ones over the years that were done properly with good quality parts and workmanship. Unfortunately, those are in the minority with plenty of formerly nice looking bikes like early 80's Honda CB-F's, BMW K100's, and countless R-series BMW's with rear frame looks hacked...

Let's talk about the ELEPHANT in the room (certifications)

Agreed. Like I said/implied the only clue this young man has came in a box marked "Parker Brothers". He bailed on becoming a mechanic when all he could find was piece work at CDN Tire so his license has expired (thankfully). Just to demonstrate his complete lack of mechanical aptitude he...

Let's talk about the ELEPHANT in the room (certifications)

"bike with a horn, headlight, turn signals, front and rear brake switch lights, mirrors" Except that's not describing the majority of blue-plated off road bikes. The Euro street legal enduros plus the CRF450l but that's it. Obviously the mild mannered dual sports fill a different role. I...

Let's talk about the ELEPHANT in the room (certifications)

Dropped my new-to-me 1982 BMW R100RS off at Airheads in Kitchener for a complete going over and refresh where necessary. George commented that the new safety regime has NO CHANGES TO SPECIFICATIONS but requires photos of components. Which means removing a wheel for drum brakes as mentioned...

The Reasonably Priced Used Motorcycles for Sale Thread

I believe you and I are the only ones who thought it was a pretty bike. I really loved the color. But other than that, as your remarks illustrate it's didn't have much else going for it.

Your First Motorcycle Was a ............?

Using the same logic, what does a KLR do that a 1981 XL250 with a large aftermarket tank won't do?

#$%@ GP Bikes just made my life harder

I like the idea of the wired heat thing, combined with the bolt grabber socket, but I think I'd look for better quality that CTC or Princess Auto. I've busted off a couple CTC bolt removers so I won't trust them again. I wonder if the tech used thread-lock on it? Just to compound the stupidity...

    Royal Enfield

And that's a bad thing? Triumph has developed a good reputation for reliability and value. The little 400 looks like a good bike and mechanically on par with the Japanese makers, or at least close. I don't think you can say the same for RE.

    R1300 triple black

"Painfully ugly" barely describes the new GS. Hideous would be closer. It's like they took one look at HD's Pan American and said, "You think that's ugly; watch this!"
