Looking for suggestions on what to buy

I'm a big fan of the Suzuki Bandit 650/GSX650F. They tick a lot of boxes for you like comfort etc and are fuel injected. They are still plenty of fun with lots of power and great handling and they can be bought pretty cheap in good shape. The insurance is equally affordable on them.

    Cardo PackTalk BOLD

Am I the last rider on the planet who doesn't want a comm unit? Never mind the expense of these things, one of the things I love most about riding is NOT being able to be gotten a hold of! Now maybe some of you are high powered execs wheeling and dealing and might need to grab that call while...

    Motorcycle Kits

If your bike has a spin on filter you can get one of these: https://www.amazon.ca/General-Tools-1566-Rubber-Wrench/dp/B001AMXRG6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1527619263&sr=8-4&keywords=strap+wrench I use one on my bikes and love it. Bonus is you can use it on several other home repairs. Another...

    Unmarked Police Vehicles

Totally agree with this. Don't forget that unmarked cars are also good for patrolling in some areas when they are looking for illegal activity but don't want to roll through with a fully marked car. It often tips off folks as to what's going on. As for seeing the same vehicle in the same...

    Salesfloor comission on new bikes

It varies from dealership to dealership but also model to model. I was talking to a Suzuki dealer last year (owner/main sales rep) about the new Van Van when it came out. I mentioned about how cool I thought it was and he said it was more of a pain in the a** for him than anything. He showed...

Honda CRF450L Unveiled: The Dual Sport Everyone’s Been Wanting?

I don't understand why they wouldn't just use the CB500 motor to make a CRF500L like they did with the CB250 motor to make the CRF250L? To me if you're making a dual sport motorcycle for recreational trail riding and you want it to be usable on the street too as a true dual sport, this would...

    Heat = more squids

I find I'm quite comfortable in my full leather jacket and gloves until 25c then I need to open the vents and even unzip a little of the main zipper. By 27c I start to get uncomfortable. I still keep the jacket on and deal with it by sweating. I am considering a convertible jacket like an...

Speaking of Iron Butts....mine is not ..

These are the ones that the IBA recommends and they pretty much don't endorse anything! https://ldcomfort.com/Mens-Riding-Shorts.html Just about everyone on their forum recommends them which to me is high praise. I'm ordering my pair this week. 4 way stretch moisture wicking fabric means...

Luck, great riding skills or both?

I doubt he could do it again with 1000 chances. It's one of those amazing flukes that can't be explained.

Any Iron Butt Association riders here?

Lightest full tourer I can think of is the Honda NT700v. Was never available in Canada (too bad because it was a fantastic motorcycle) but a few got imported from the US and can be found from time to time. Unfortunately they were only sold in the US for 2 or 3 years so parts may be an issue...

    Better shape = faster?

I always remember back in the early 2000's several of my riding buddies who had SS bikes swapping out various parts for carbon fibre or aluminum bits, and ALWAYS bragging about the weight they saved and how it made them "faster". I would listen, nod politely and then pat them them on their...

Bosch air jet will stop you from low siding on gravel/oil patch ...

Not sure how practical it is once you factor in weight of the system itself, cost of purchase/installation and maintenance of system. Does it need to be recharged after a use? Do you need a special tool or gas to recharge it? I guess I'm getting old, but I like my bikes fairly low tech. I...

OOPS! Not charges I'd want to be dealing with

If they can use it catch speeders like this and get them off the road then I think it's money well spent. Say he had caused an accident at those speeds. A wrecked car or two and a few personal injuries and it doesn't take long to add up to $2 million. Not to mention the suffering and anguish...

Any Iron Butt Association riders here?

Congratulations Pilot! It feels great, doesn't it? I will say that yes, you could have done the SS2000k, but it feels like a bit of a cheater ride to me. It doesn't match up with any of the Imperial distance rides, it was made just for the Metric countries. Even their SS3000k is a bit of a...

    1982 XV920R -- What's it worth?

IMO, any bike in the 500cc+ realm that is certifiable, running well and in fair to good cosmetic shape is worth $2,000, regardless of age. You can find bikes out there for less, but chances are by the time you fix the few things it needs to cert you're pretty well at the $2k mark anyway. If it...

What are you looking for in your local motorcycle shop ?

I find the old adage of price, speed, quality but you can only have two of the three generally applies to most shops. I've been luck enough to find all 3 with Clarington Cycle. Work is always done right, on time and at a fair price. That is why I've had all my bike work done there for over a...

Any Iron Butt Association riders here?

I did my first SS1000 last July and really enjoyed it. I was sufficiently sore from doing it on my Bandit and found myself trading it for an ST1300 less than 2 months later! The main thing is to read the rules, read them again, and then read them again. The IBA is very particular about their...
