Quitting for 5 years, anyone do this before?

Bikes are a luxury that you can defer. You are right to get rid of your student loan as quickly as possible. You could ride street on a 300 for minimal cost, but the decision is yours. There are many other hobbies out there for you to learn. Bikes will always be there for you. You know yourself...

    Taking apart Oil filters

I, too, am curious about those oil filters, but you'll need to take some more detailed photos to show the differences. All I can see now is that the Kawi filter has one more part.

    Scooter suggestion

Before you make any decision, call around for insurance quotes. There will be little price difference between the Piaggio Fly 150 and a Honda CBR125/250. Insurance might be more expensive than the bike itself, especially if you have no motorcycle license currently.

    need insurance real soon

Nice bike. You'll need to provide more info. Age, where you live, new rider, old fart, all factor into your insurance premium. You have a 3 yo bike, so do you need comprehensive? Doing collision only can decrease your rate. Have you gone through the stickies in the insurance section?

Any good shops that specialize in vintage bikes?

For that amount of work and money it might be better to rethink things and go for a vintage Shadow 600, or a CB360. The CB125T is pretty uncommon, not to mention that it is 6v! Ride it as is, with maintenance, or upgrade to something at least with 12v, something that does not need complete...

    Open face + no windshield = ????????

Maybe riders of yore were much tougher than today. I need my windshield.

Cruiser vs Naked for 1st bike

Super clean bike, super reliable, forward controls-ish. You need to sit on it and the bike might talk to you.

Cruiser vs Naked for 1st bike

Like sportsbikes, cruisers also have different seating positions: feet forward (gyne position), neutral (sit-up-and-beg) mid-position. I find the feet forward position uncomfortable, but there are a lot of curisers that have this position. Most of the Harley line are feet forward, though I...

    Cleaning leather gloves?

Ivory liquid detergent is very mild. Soak, rinse, then lay on a rack to air dry. Add leather conditioner to the outside of the gloves. The leather for gloves is thin, which does wear down. You might be in need of a new pair.

    Trying to get into Riding/Advice

Each older bike has its weak points, most of which are documented somewhere on the internet, in bike-specific forums. For example the Honda VT500C has issues with rusting tanks at the corners (near the seat) and the collector (headers go to collector, which then goes to the mufflers). When you...

New to riding:What to look for in my first bike?

<500cc <50hp <400lb is a general rule of thumb. Any of the 250-300cc street bikes are ideal, as they are not as heavy, and all will competently do the highway all day at legal speeds. 125cc bikes are great for around town but may not be great on the highway. You are looking for a Cessna and not...

Failure to produce ownership/insurance...what do you guys think?

There is a project underway/completed that allows police to query the auto insurance web site. How accurate it is I know not, and if the project has rolled out to all police I also do not know. Ontario's IT record is not stellar. It seems that police departments do have access, but maybe not the...

    Motorcycle insurance for chinese bikes??

Lifan is a very popular and well respected brand in China. They are everywhere and are on of the top domestic brands. The Japanese brands in China are more expensive, of course. I do not know about registration but this guy and his Lifan GY5 did it in 2009, but he is from the East coast...

New to Riding - Honda cbr125 question

"Naked"-ifying a bike is really easy. Start removing fairings and shields and stop when you no longer have supports for important bits such as your headlights and turn indicators. You will really feel the wind against you without a fairing. The movement is similar to "Chopping" a bike, but...

Insurance for 30 year Old bikes

I believe they do. I was with Personal years ago but could not move my bundled car/house for a year. They insured my '84 Honda with a standalone policy. I left them for Co-operators, then returned recently. The thing is that you need to be part of a member organization/company that uses them...

    77 Honda cb550 electrical question...

Find the electrical schematic for your bike. Do you know how to use a multimeter? If not, then you'll need to learn. Old bikes can have corrosion of electrical connections, and may need cleaning or replacement. You'll need to check all the wiring and all connectors on your bike using a...

    300cc vs 500cc

On the highway at 110kph what would the rpms be between a 300 vs 500?

    300cc vs 500cc

My insurance agent told me that all bikes under 500cc are priced similarly, be they a Honda 500 or a Tomos Sprint moped (50cc, single gear). You need to phone and ask. I think the difference in insurance will be minimal. Just for fun ask about the Tomos. A friend of mine pays more for his moped...

List of requirements for a motrocycle safety

The safety cert requirements are the bare minimum standard. If you tell us the bike make, model, year, you might get more specific answers, as all bikes have their special quirks.

    Riding in the heat

I have some A* mesh pants. The pants are solid on the knee armour, buttocks, crotch and the front has solid pockets. In other words they are only mesh on the back of your legs. When riding they provide very limited air flow, so still feel hot. The article mentions the use of a Camelback. I used...
