If it works reliably, as long as you can penetrate the tire into the tube it shouldn't make any difference. Keep in mind that some cuts are very small, and if you need to make a big *** hole in your tire to patch a small cut I'm not sure if it's worth it.

I don't think it's the same guy. Picture quality isn't the best but it looks like the facial hair doesn't grow in the same fashion.

I use "Super Clean industrial strength degreaser". I mix it with water and brush my chain, then wash off with water. I do it my condo parking spot, no complaints and no damage so far. Bottle claims it's non-abrasive and phosphate free.

What would worry me about winter commuting/riding is the salt. It's very bad for the bike. I rode my bicycle for one winter and the front shocks seized, although I took really good care of it after rides.

Below 5k for a used bike would be the best.
