Thought you were joking until I looked.
That's a bit concerning...
Clutch and head gasket seem to be recurring issues in the online owner forums, but seem to be either from riding without a properly adjusted clutch or winding the piss out of it at the track.
Seeing lots of opinions and debate on this thread, but not hearing a lot from actual owners and riders. Be interested in hearing first-hand impressions from people who live with the bike every day.
Recently married, so the 1200 had to go and my summer of long tours are over. The concession is a...
Mixed emotions on group rides. I really enjoy talking to different riders and meeting new people on the rides. Every ride I've gone on, I've learned at least one new thing from somebody.
That said I really dislike group "riding." For all the usual reasons.
Re: Why are non-sport bike riders so Holier than Thou? ;)
What's with all this hating on the Mormons?
If you don't want to ride with the Jesus-people, go find some other people to ride with...
Indeed. Taste is highly subjective. And most people's taste is all in their mouth...
See too many shambolic bikes by people who have no experience/strong guiding principles or are just in too much of a hurry to get a bike that matches with an image they're projecting and make videos of grinder...
I agree with the earned part. I put stickers from my rides on my hard cases, even if it's just a few hundred KM to a chip wagon. I know it looks cheeseball, but that's kind of the intent. Plus it's a badge for having spent a couple of hours in the sun/rain and a sore @$$...

I have no commercial interest in GP Bikes and really am not a fan of the shop, truth be told, but this is a good buy, given the age, mileage and baggage for those into dual-purpose touring. Especially considering there's a guy posting a 2001 beater for close to the same price...
Agreed. The tank here really throws off the visual weight.
There are guidelines for the proper aesthetics of a cafe racer. This is a good overview...

This close to the GTA that would mean farm land and what scares land-owners off are:
a) Insurance liability if you get hurt on their property, even after swearing on a stack of bibles,
b) Afraid the bikes will scare animals/rip up their fileds,
c) You'll litter,
d) That you'll start bringing...
Yep. Rode with a dude today who had 173K on his thumper. Was expecting to get another 50K out of it. German bikes just keep going on forever...
As far as the whole "classic" Japenese thing goes, think the whole cafe racer trend is driving prices far past reasonable. Supply and demand, sure, but...
Yeah, I don't know what it is about this market that makes people so afraid of high mileage bikes. There are lots of bike on the road running clean at 100+ km, and some models pushing 200+ and still going strong.
High milers tend to fit into one of two buckets - either they've been ridden hard...
