Salt is not only an enemy to metal but traction also. Be aware of any crystallized appearances on the road, the salt can drop you just as quick as ice can. As said above washing it straight after a winter ride is highly important for preventing corrosion.

i agree, the roads around me are fine, dry, no moisture, no salt for the most part) however my driveway and side street has still a lot of ice on it, going to wait until that's gone to head out. rather not drop my bike 20 yards from my house, plus rather not get salt up in it. play it by ear...

I don't care what mirrors you have you are not going to get the view that the helmet offers. There are certainly pro's and con's to it. As for the younger people, I think they test's aren't going to change any time soon, they will still be taught and tested to use their mirrors appropriately...

I lived and rode in Australia for 5 years. It wasn't legal there, but it wasn't illegal either. Most bikers do it over there but mostly at red light traffic stops. I had no problems when doing it, in fact a lot of times cars would see you coming and would move over for you. As for being fined...
