Cager tried to kill me on my way to work today

Wow. Lots of similar stories floating around. As far as I'm concerned, this is never (never!) acceptable behaviour, and in fact should get him a nice little vandalism conviction. Two wrongs don't make a right, as they say. (but four lefts do...)

    Bike randomly shuting off?

I was going to post the same suggestion - my kickstand interlock switch has been killing the bike randomly for the last week or so. (I hate safety interlocks :)

Scala G4 Users - Please Help

We had a lot of trouble with VOX (both answering the phone and activating the intercom) until we switched the VOX sensitivity from medium to high. We still have to be quite loud, but at least it works now. You can change the VOX sensitivity with their configuration software on your PC, or using...

Tons of respect to any riders who ride downtown Toronto!!!

So today, I'm waiting to turn left from Yonge to Shuter. Light turns yellow, there's a clear spot between the pedestrians. Twist the throttle, and engine dies. Out of gas! I switched to the reserve and restarted, but I had to wait for the next yellow light :)

Cager tried to kill me on my way to work today

Just today, a red sports car pulled a U-turn from his parking spot right in front of me, eastbound on Gerrard near Logan. Ya, it happens all the time...

    Stunting on an e-bike?

Nice try, but bicycles are HTA 'motor vehicles', as many (many) cyclists have found out the hard way.

GTA to Ottawa - Best route?

I just wanted an excuse to draw pretty lines on Google Maps. I'd forgotten about 10 - I used to stay at a cottage just off 10, and so drove it to Perth (then 7 to Ottawa) once several years ago. I agree, it's probably more fun than 15!

GTA to Ottawa - Best route?

If you choose to head to Kingston, then this drive is reasonably interesting and pretty: http://goo.gl/maps/x651 Once you get to the 416, you can either boot it into Ottawa, or else cross over and take the back streets.

    lane splitting / filtering

Nah. Under the law he's pretty restricted in how he interprets evidence, and he explains his decisions to accept the testimony of the cop and disregard the testimony of the defendant. The defendant needed a much better lawyer, however, to disassemble the officer's testimony. The trumped up...

    lane splitting / filtering

Agreed. It is disturbing that at least part of the HTA172 charge is because he was interpreted to be deliberately riding as close as possible to the motorcycle in front of him, something we do all the time in pack formation (to prevent cars from breaking into the middle of the pack). To clarify...

Proper way to stop at stop signs/red lights?

I just remembered another one: Approaching (red) traffic lights I'll slow down and downshift early (both in the car and on the bike). If you leave yourself enough time and space, you can often avoid stopping. We did this several times coming down Yonge street on the way home last night. (I...

Blew a rear tire at 120 in Kitchener

My dad had a nail in his tire last summer. He decided to carefully drive the bike home (around 1km), then take the wheel in to the shop. Alas, the flat tire slid around the rim, and the nail poked about a hundred small holes in the rim, all the way around. On the other hand, his mechanic said...

Proper way to stop at stop signs/red lights?

Depends on how fast I need to slow down. If I have enough time, I'll engage most or all gears on the way down. If I'm stopping faster, I'll click down through the gears without bothering to engage the clutch. (In the car it's a bit easier 'cos you can skip gears :)

Proper way to stop at stop signs/red lights?

I was taught, both in a manual transmission car and on a bike, to downshift as you go, mainly so that you're in the 'correct' gear for your speed if you have to maneuver suddenly.
