After replacing the starter, I realized that it was not the problem. I removed the left engine case and found that the crank bolt was totally loose. The starter was turning but not contacting the gear mechanism because it was off-line. Thanks again to every body for their help.
This thread reminds me why it's so important to learn to do as much of your own service as possible. You will save money, and if there is a problem with the work you have no one to blame but yourself.
