I had the same problem with my starter spinning freely but not engaging. It ended up being a loose crank bolt which allowed the engine gears to be mis-aligned with the starter gears.

Go to Gorham New Hamphire (home of Mount Washington) the most spectacular mountain in the east. Hwy 2 will get you there in 2 and 1/2 hrs. I suggest you find hwy 112 (kankamangus hwy) and ride it as part of your route.

My biggest fear are deer. They're unpredictable.
