California bound on an FJR1300 in April

The FJR performed flawlessly during my 16,000 km 6 week trip. The only problem I had was with my throttle grip, but it proved to be my fault all along. I got into the habit of forgetting that my throttle lock was on. I would force the grip back to the off throttle position. In time the glue...

I want to thank you for your regular input during my 6 week trip Mac Doc. Your weather advice and regular contact were an encouragement to me. Thank you to you also Beastie Girl. I now understand why you like Colorado so much. It's beauty cannot be adequately described by words alone. I am still...

California bound on an FJR1300 in April

I am finally back home to reality. I am thankful for my life changing trip, but reality sucks. I was starting to enjoy my life as a nomad.

Its all a blur to me., but I was in Robbinsville around the middle of last week. I saw a grey Multistrada at the grocery store there with Ontario plates. I stayed at the Microtel. I saw more Michigan plates than Ontario.

California bound on an FJR1300 in April

I guess I should check in and let every one know I'm still alive. Anyways, the days all a blur. After the Dragon, I rode the BRP up to Roenick, then hooked up with 311 which runs northwest for about 60 miles. I made my way up to 219 and stayed over at Elkins WV. Rode to the top of Spruce Knob...

For those of you looking for an entertaing route home from the Dragon, you should hook up with 311 north out of Roenick. It is many miles of twisties up and down mountain ridges. The best part is that it is lightly traveled.

    Call to legalize lane splitting/filtering

When I was riding through Southern California a couple of weeks ago I rode in the high occupancy lane and some how I felt "bad." What I didn't like about lane splitters in California is that they take the liberty of sharing your lane while filtering. This was some times unnerving BTW, I never...

I stand corrected. However, that could happen on any country road. Yesterday while in N.C, I had four deer run out in front of me. Why do deer always cross the road in single file? This makes it impossible for motorists to know how many there are. I guess we should always assume that where...

I agree with your comment regarding the BRP. It is so well engineered that you just leave your bike in third gear while following the roads flowing curves, never once having to touch your brakes. Gravel is never an issue and there never seem to be any unexpected surprises.

This sucks...weather - who is going where?

It has been cold for me in the North Carolina mountains for past three days. Woke up to 3 degrees in Boone NC this morning. Even now in Roanoke it is only in the mid teens. At least its dry here. Tomorrow I ride through WV and its more of the same- mid teens and dry. I'm not complaining though...

I am in Robbinsville NC today. I rode the Cherahola Pkwy. It was great. Nice roads and scenic too. Tomorrow I meet the infamous Dragon. Locals told me a guy from Ohio died there yesterday. I don't understand why that road turns into a pissing contest for so many.

Thanks for the suggestions Mac Doc. I also got some free maps at the Tennessee welcome center. I'm at Southern Honda in Chattanooga getting a new set of tires and oil change. Service and parts are certainly cheaper here. They tell me they are the largest Honda dealer in the country. I'm...

Just watched the weather forecast for Colorado today. They are getting SNOW! Even Denver got hit. Its a miracle I was able to ride on 11,000 foot passes in early May. The door has clearly been shut.

I am riding to Chattanooga today. Please suggest some other roads between here and Virginia border besides the Dragon (129) I can explore. I have done the BRP before though not this far south. Perhaps a suggested route north.

I went to Letchworth once. I here that dinner in the park is delicious and reasonable. I will have to try it out next time I'm there. BTW, I visited Barber Motorsport Park today. The place was awesome. It is truly a special place for any body who's heart beats with two wheeled passion. The...

BTW, I spent yesterday in Monroe Louisiana, home of "Duck Dynasty." These hillbilly's are laughing all the way to the bank. They have a factory with souvenir shop, a restaurant, and even a car wash. I visited the place for giggles.

California bound on an FJR1300 in April

I am in Meridian Mississippi today. Its hot and humid. Luckily, no rain today. I am only 2 hours from Birmingham Alabama. I am excited about visiting Barber Motorsports Park tomorrow. I already did my research. They are open 12-6 Sunday. They charge $15 admission, probably a bargain. I can...

I am in Dallas for the night. While it improves here tomorrow this slow moving storm is going to follow me east for the next two days. I have a 6 hour window of clear skies headed towards Louisiana between 10-4. I think I would prefer even a little east ward progress rather than just staying in...

Dear Mac Doc, It became summer on April 11 for me. That is the day I arrived in CharlestonWV.It was 22 degrees and sunny. I have not experienced any cold since then because my trajectory has been south west in order to insulate me from the realities of a T.O winter.
