I did the same research last summer. Ended up with naked litre bikes. narrowed down to FZ 10 (or MT 10) and Z1000R, (or Z900, FZ09 (MT09)). All these naked bikes have rate $1000 to $1500/year for a new rider. Best I4 sound Z1000 and Z900.

I think I've heard somewhere there is a minimum distance required between signal lights which integrating tail light doesn't satisfy that. The questiion is am I going to get pulled over or some officer can give me a hard time for that?! thanks,

Insurance for Ninja 650 is not that much different. I'd say do your upgrade to 650 next season and enjoy riding however you like, wherever you like at the speed that you like (rather than adjusting your riding to what your bike can do). Who knows what happens in 3 years?
