But ya, if you have material left, the brakes aren't pulsating or doing anything strange, short of disassembling, cleaning and lubing the calliper, I wouldn't worry about it
Its not the retainers, its the valves. You should change the retainers anyway, but its the valves and they need to be changed. Consider yourself lucky that you didn't drop one into the cylinder. Unfortunately, they're not exactly cheap.

Measure fork height prior to removing them, then set to that number, tighten the pinch bolts, install axle loosely, lower the front wheel to the ground and pump the forks up and down, then tighten the axle and everything else.
