Where did you ride today? - New rider version

Mawhahaha yea, did a few things while editing I thought would be amusing....probably helps if you were there though. +1 Brad Sucks, doesn't matter what mood you're in when you're listening, always good.

High rise boots vs low rise footwear

I'm pro-boot, but prefer, if i the I could afford, the ones that still let u rotate ur ankle like a shoe. I just imagine if I'm in a roll with boots I'm more likely to blow my knee whereas with shoes I'd twist my ankle or at least have the flexibility so it puts less stress on my knee

Where did you ride today? - New rider version

Awesome idea for a thread. Just took for the second time a new to me route and felt like trying out the new to me 'used' gopro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqINf5ptQIw

Chain Cleaning -- what kind of gizmos or manual cleaning methods do you employ?

.....can't imagine how much of a roller coaster ride this thread has been for WD-40 users

Don't want to derail the thread too much, open a new topic and PM me about it if you're really curious because I can go on forever. If it's a DC motor (most do it yourself gas-to-electric car conversions (generally much cheaper) or drag racing electric cars) or an AC Synchronous (eg. Nissan...

    Electric Relay

Nice diagram. Yes I forgot to mention, I have a tendency think more than I type. You're right about the capacitor discharging through the coil when you turn everything off. It's harmless. You may have also noticed that it takes 0.2-0.4 seconds for the HIDs to turn on as the relay progressively...

Offtopic: My dark pash-e-on....even less maintenance if it's air cooled. 1$ electricity / 25 miles is kinda nice.....$5 one way from London to Toronto hummm. Electric motors still need maintenance though, like an air hose cleaning every 20,000 km :) and then most likely a partial dissassembly...

    Electric Relay

AWESOME. That's great to hear and overall a clean look. And you're right, electrical takes a while to get comfortable with but it's easier to learn when you're motivated to do your own work. I wouldn't worry much about the 0.25W resistor, if it holds up after a month of use then you're...

    Electric Relay

Shame, side markers would of made it super easy. Local makes sense. Weekend is coming up and digikey is 1 business day for shipping so you'd have to wait till Monday. -------------------------- If you speak to someone locally they should have something close to those parts....although the...

    Electric Relay

The PWM unit is 95% most likely in the main computer. That's a good idea, anything that isn't PWMd will work for the trigger. Your relay only pulls 140mA to operate. ........... Just ran the proper simulations. Couldn't find the switching frequency online so use a worst case scenario (80Hz...

Chain Cleaning -- what kind of gizmos or manual cleaning methods do you employ?

Kerosene is amazing (from camping section of CanadianTire), and very cheap. Best part is that it evaporates quickly before you apply your lubricant of choice. Dissolves most things I've thrown at it so if your cleaning something heavy greasy in the future and soap isn't cutting it (because...

Use the money you save paying a mechanic and add to your tool arsenal. Overall may initially be at a $ loss but will save you money on other jobs in the future... not to mention you'll get the satisfaction of knowing your bike better when you talk about it with fellow riders. To do the forks...

Excessive Heat 05 ZX6R after switch to Rotella T

Unless an overheat indicator turns on then you're still running within the engines designed specifications and I wouldn't give it another thought. People repeatedly race your bike at the high end of its rpm range and it handles it well. Although slightly less accurate, if you're still skeptical...

    Electric Relay

Please do. I'm expecting you to tell me a coil terminal voltage reading of somewhere from 6-13V and battery voltage of 12-~14.5V

    Electric Relay

Shame, couldn't find a data sheet for that relay, but that is alright. Alternative bonus: not necessary but it's an alternative way for me to figure out the frequency. If you can measure DC voltage, while the car is running, what is the voltage across the battery terminals and across the relay...

    Electric Relay

When HIDs initially turn on they draw a lot of power to initiate the electrical arc through xenon gas, which is what emits the light. Initiating the arc requires much more power than maintaining it does. The problem with PWM is that depending on the rate of the pulses, your HID system may be...

    Electric Relay

Haha. The relay will survive but that's definitely a good way to shorten the life of your HIDs. What you are referring to by the pulses is known as PWM (pulse width modulation: e.g. if you pulse a 12V bulb on/off 2/3 per second (or millisecond) of the time then the bulb will see 8V effectively...

    Electric Relay

Lots of potential reasons for the buzzing. If you're lucky it could just be poorly grounded. Clean up the ground/negative of the relay and make sure it has a clean connection to ground. Otherwise... 1a) Not sure where you installed the relay. It could be too close to the alternator or ignition...

Broken ankle ... ends my riding season

Doubt it will ever come to this since your recovery is progressing, but if your ankle bothers you in the long run (like my shoulder does on some random days) I can help you set up a servo (small electric motor) assisted shifter. 1) put a sensor/button at the top and bottom surface of your...
