relationship between the year on the vin plate and the model year

hello peeps, so what's the relationship between the year stamped on the vin plate and the actual model year?! these are the explanations i've gotten so far: 1) regardless of the month, year on vin plate = model year (ie: 5/12, month of may, year 2012 = model year 2012) 2) if the month on the...

    replacing handle bars

example1: from drag bar to an ape hanger - i would assume, depending on the length of the cables etc, you would need to re wire to accomodate the new handle bar (ie: would need longer cables) example2 from ape to drag (let's say mini ape 12") - would the cables need to be shortened? since...

gears: riding to and from work.

hi peeps, for those who ride to and from work, what's your setup?! im referring to gear and your work clothes and how you go on about it. do you bring your work clothes with you and change at work? or do you just put your gear over your work clothes? for example, if you do not have any dress...

    opinions/thoughts: 2000 model with 20k km vs 1996 model with 10.5k km

thanks for the replies. virago tech forum is pretty neat. i think all the prices are high for all of them except the year 2000 with 20k km. anyhow, it's a learning experience for me :) live and learn. ride safe.

riding a 250cc (or less) bike on the 401 (or other major highways)

thanks for the replies. i guess mainly i was wondering about a 250cc's power/performance with respect to other vehicles on the 401. (ie: scooter on a higway feeling, to illustrate what i'm talking about). anyhow, the rider's peformance/skill set/experience etc would be the key. the rider is...

    motorcycle pants

thoughts on pads, armors etc that you can strap on with regular clothes? or other gears? (ie: knee/elbow pads) jackets with armor or just paddings? specially for leather jackets. i guess everything pretty much boils down to personal preferrence. but it's nice to hear what others do/wear...

what does having a bike certified/safetied involve?!

thanks for all the replies. very informative. yeah unfit could be due to many factors, but basically if the bike was not plated previously (even there were no issues) and when you try to register it again (ie: new owner) the bike is deemed unfit and a cert is required to change unfit to fit. i...

Where to buy some cheap gear?

if you know your helmet size i have a brand new hjc cs-r2 daggar for sale with free extras (ie: upgrade visor from hj to hj-09 $30-40$ value, and detachable breathe guard, $10 value.) and no tax. walmart has them leather boots for 30$. leather garden gloves from canadian tire for 5$.

what does having a bike certified/safetied involve?!

so there's no chance of getting an 'unplated/unfit' bike on the road even with a temporary permit/plate? (of course insurance will be activated) for example, re register the bike under my own name as unplated/unfit and get a temporary plate so i can bring it to a mechanic and get it certified...

Insuring a bike without safety cert?

i actually just read something about this. what you did was the bike was registered/plated/fit. now what if the bike was not plated? i think this changes the situation. i read on the mto site (though i may not have read nor understood it properly hhaha), that if the bike was previously...

what does having a bike certified/safetied involve?!

cool thanks. one thing to note, i was reading the requirements for registration of a used vehicle (purchased privately), that IF a bike was registered as 'unfit' or 'not plated' prior to sale that a 'safety cert' is required before the buyer can regsiter the bike. did i read/understand this...

riding a 250cc (or less) bike on the 401 (or other major highways)

something i noticed, though this might just be me. that drivers on the 401 are much more aggressive. or it feels that way. even just with cars. as if once you enter 401 it's a completely different ball game hahah. anyone feel or think this too? ride safe.

    motorcycle pants

cool. thanks for the replies. i saw an article before regarding different material for motorcycle pants, and since the minimum suggested pants are 'thick' enough jeans, it was interesting to see the different tests that theyve done. ie: tear force, how long such material will last if dragged...
