Allstate does insure motorcycles, but they do not like sport bikes (or naked sport bikes); however, they do insure sport touring bikes. I am not sure why they are not insuring SFV650 since it's just a naked version of SV650. I can find out for you. Ask me if you have more info. :p

I would go with the price. Customer service/claims process are also important factors but we are talking about $240 of difference. (That's about 24% of difference)

It's probably not going to be 5k a year but I wouldn't be surprised if it is close to that after you called in. I would say maybe around 3k a year. Afterall, ppl with SS doing stunting moves on streets are the people who make us pay so much on SS bikes.

to OP, you don't need to stick with side streets for couple months... probably a week of practice after your RTI course, you should be ready to join the "fun" with all the cagers on the road.... I'll see ya around :D

to OP, insurance will kill you... doesn't matter if you never had a ticket/no claim/no accident/no nothing.... that's not how the insurance companies calculate stuff... they use "The Law of large numbers" to determine the crash rate on the age range, the type of bikes, based on the number of...

there are no "friendly" sport bikes.... SS bikes or sport touring? how old are you? (insurance will be one of the important factors) not trying to be an @ss, but just want more info before giving you suggestions...

I believe it's all about the comfort level. Lower powered bikes often give you a better chance of learning, and allow you to get away with some newbie mistakes. It is never a good idea to learn to ride on a bike with tons of power, just as you will never learn to drive on a Porsche or Ferrari...

$3000 for all the scratches and broken windscreen? forget it... even $2000 is too much of a hassle... unless you want to make it as a project bike... but in that case, i would only pay $1500 for that
