when does every one stop riding??

Yes, Heidenau K60 Scout M+S tires, rated for Mud and Snow. You'll probably find their sizing limited to Adventure bikes like the DL650, and scooters. http://www.petes-superbike.com/scout-dual-sport-tire-c-2234_1_4369_4395.html http://aviciouscycle.ca/mainpages/productList.aspx?brandid=68

    Insuring vehicles with multiple companies

Thanks. I got a miserable quote for a dl650 from another Intact broker, John Duffy Brokers. Maybe this is their strong-handed way of telling people they aren't getting a multi-vehicle discount?

when does every one stop riding??

I don't like to stop riding. There are less safe and more safe times in winter to ride, and it is pretty easy to be comfortable to at least -16c. I often pause my riding during the first snowfalls of winter, mostly because there isn't any salt on the road to take care of ice yet. I used to...

    GoPro Camera Questions

Indeed. The VIRB Elite includes GPS, so attaching ride telemetry to your videos is a lot easier because it is already there. Speed, location, altitude, g-forces, direction, etc. The Elite (if not the regular VIRB as well) also comes with some basic mounts, plus an adapter to attach to...

    wow glad I had Nexus

I just got my Nexus, and the process took me 2 months exactly to the day, plus a week to wait for the card. Most of that time is waiting for them to process your online application. When I got my notice that it was progressing, their scheduling system said it would be about a 2 week wait for...

    Michelin Pilot Road 4's

I just replaced my Pilot Road 4's on the K1300S inline-4 after 21200km, the best I've ever had out of a set of tires. They weren't even the "GT" longer-life version meant for heavier bikes. I was probably down to about 1mm of tread left down the centre line on the tires when I replaced them...

recommended base layer for colder rides?

I'm a big fan of Merino Smartwool long underwear. Even when I tour in summer, I wear the ultralight stuff; wicks the sweat off and really helps keep you cool. Packs very small, so I often carry around a decent complement of weights in case I meet with unseasonable weather. Smartwool is a...

    Do you pre book motels?

I often ask the motel staff if there's a well-lit and observed area where I can leave the bike, like near the motel office. They are often quite accommodating. An alarm disc lock is a good idea, but make sure you get one with a bungee cord you can put around your handlebar to remind you it...

    Do you pre book motels?

Since I try to stick with decent motel chains, I will often book "ahead" same day by about 13:00, as I get a feel for where I expect to end up for the day, to be sure I've got a bed waiting for me that night. If there is a special event (like a long weekend/holiday), it is often necessary to...

Recommendations for GPS units and mounting options

I recently bought the Zumo 590LM to replace my abused Zumo 660. It is really nice. I prefer motorcycle GPSs to using a smartphone, for overall durability (waterproof, gasoline proof, survives 4+ years of direct scorching sunlight), ease of use while riding (like functional with gloved...

Your average KM per riding season.

My typical yearly total is 35000-40000km, including an average of 2500km in winter. Last year I managed 41000km. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD

    Winter Riding Gloves

Though they're heated, the Warm 'n Safe Ultimate Touring are awesome. Minimal insulation on the palm, they're relatively water resistant, good motorcycle armour, etc. http://www.warmnsafe.com/ultimate-touring-mens-heated-gloves/

    who's still riding? (in toronto)

Got out for about a 75km ride yesterday (Monday, Dec. 30). Roads were in excellent shape and besides the chill, it was a beautiful sunny day.

    who's still riding? (in toronto)

Further reflections on the K1300S in winter. After sitting outside all day at -7c yesterday, its battery seems a bit low on cold-cranking-amps. It was really struggling to turn over, then had to be forced to churn on its starter for 10 seconds, and then it ran _really_ rough for the first 30...

    who's still riding? (in toronto)

My 2003 cbr1100xx runs really lean , but I never had any problems whatsoever with it down to -16c, once the block saw about 10 seconds of forced detonation. Lean due to the stock cbr1100xx map on the Power Commander III, which seriously improves the fuel economy and smoothness at the cost of...

    who's still riding? (in toronto)

This can be a challenging time of year to be riding. There isn't enough salt on the roads yet to be "confident" that there won't be any patches of ice, and drivers are still re-learning how to drive. I often find my riding is curtailed in December, but January and on is much easier and safer.

    2014 honda vfr800f

I had a gen5 (1998-2001) VFR800, which came in around the 520lb mark. I never found its weight to be excessive and if anything, it made it easier to ride over long distances with so much heft. It handled me and all my luggage astoundingly well over its 174000km. The bike was a serious...

    who's still riding? (in toronto)

Well done on the 80k in 2 years. :) I'm toying with getting a DL650, primarily as my winter bike but also as a different option during the fairer seasons. They seem to be pretty cheap on Kijiji.
