    "air cooled" motorcycle owners? speak-up!

I like the tires Jimsun. Why avoid the highway? Surely that little 550 can do the minimum speed limit?

    Absolutely, very cool ride. :)

slight oil weep from valve cover gasket...

Not sure why I feel compelled to respond, but I will briefly; I did apply the recommended torque, and in the correct sequence. Yes, Honda gave me a thick rubber gasket. The service manual itself calls for RTV silicone around the halfmoon cut-outs and corners. Yes, as I stated above, the washers...

Over time, the valve cover washers, that provide positive pressure on the seal, dry and flatten out. My washers were literally half the thickness of new washers. These are what caused the leak. The winter just set it off. Gravity is all that is required to "push out" the oil when there's...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think they look great. The motor is a gem, and they are uber comfortable on the highway.

    "air cooled" motorcycle owners? speak-up!

I can't be the only GTAM'er with an air-cooled, 'old school' motorcycle. Who else? I was thinking that we can use this thread to find out where you live, and then plan future rides/meets. Nothing like riding with like-minded individuals. I ride an '01 Honda CB750 NH Just a point of clarity...

Best Method to Secure LiFePO4 Battery

I used a smaller scooter battery in my ride. I secured it in place with two industrial grade velcro tabs (at bottom of battery). Never moved an inch. Bought it at home depot:

Thanks. I searched high and low for a mint condition late model CB750. I come from more sophisticated motorcycles and wanted something 'old school' and simple to maintain and operate. Problem is, it's neither a cruiser nor a sport bike... I just don't 'fit in' :)

air cooled vs liquid cooled? ducati monster...

Brain P; all that you say is true. However, I will only counter by saying that I've owned my share of modern liquid-cooled beasts, and "stone axe reliable" air-cooled beasts. In my experience, the air-cooled motorcycles were always the least amount of trouble. They also don't puke fluid in the...

Oh, and I also installed my "Tool Tube" while I was in there! :) It came with an aluminum gas bottle. Added "peace of mind" on longer excursions.

slight oil weep from valve cover gasket...

Just an FYI, that all is well. No more weeping gasket! However, I won't lie, my first attempt utterly failed and the dang cover was weeping in more places! I took a deep breath, went back at it and popped off the valve cover. I spent the entire day on Saturday (6am to 3pm) cleaning off the...

slight oil weep from valve cover gasket...

I installed the rubber washers that Honda refers to as "rubber mounts". I tightened the valve cover bolts in a "criss-cross" pattern; I set the torque wrench to 7 Nm, and then finally to 10.35 Nm. I ran it for a while, but I ran out of daylight to see the fruits of my efforts. There was still a...

slight oil weep from valve cover gasket...

I know better than to enter into an oil debate :) I removed the tank and plastics and gave everything a good cleaning. I also removed a valve cover bolt. Yep, the rubber washer is flatter than a Thailandese shemale. A bugger to remove to. Obviously original washers. New washers will be in on...

slight oil weep from valve cover gasket...

I used to think that... and perhaps it's just coincidence, but on older motorcycles with older seals, a change to synthetic immediately caused leaks for me. I don't chance it on older motorcycles. Another observation is that, in my case, synthetics burns faster than conventional oils (meaning I...
