Looking to get into long distance riding, need some pointers

Stay away from parks that contain glaciers. I was in Montana and we rode through a glacier and the snow was 10 feet tall on the sides of the road. They had plowed the road a couple of days before we went through. Avoid those, and you won't need an extra warm layer. :-) To get around pre-paid gas...

Where To Find Motorycles For Sale?

Well, the only thing my bike (2003 FZ1) is missing off your list is in the Kilometre department. Below 5 or 6,000rpm, the FZ1 is a tame, smooth, fast bike. Above 6,000 up to the 11,000rpm redline it reverts back into a slightly heavy R1. :D Some sport tourers are more sport than tourers. It all...

    Any sidecar owners here?

I had a 2008 Ural. Purchased at Old Vintage Cranks in Hillsburgh, Ontario. 19" tires all around, 2 wheel drive on some models (I had this, rarely needed the 2WD). Sold it after two seasons and 27,000kms. Loads of pics and videos on the interweb. :D

is it worth getting an adventure bike for ontario roads?

I have an FZ1, wearing PR2 tires. And we do fire roads and gravel roads all the time. And I was starting to find that more fun and challenging than blasting through the manicured, paved roads around here. Where I live, the really cool roads are gravel/dirt. I just picked up a DR650 and I am...

    Herbert's Fish and Chips

The other thing to keep in mind, if you haven't been there in a while, is that the gas station at 637 & 69 is gone.

    Herbert's Fish and Chips

I know it is a seasonal business and the season is definitely over. So my guess would be that it is close. If you go up, keep in mind that it is a lot colder up there than it is here.

    I Saw You: V.2.0

Re: I Saw You, Are you on this forum? V.2.0. About noon on Sunday. On 4th line Mono, just south of Hockley Valley. Me: on a southbound DR650. You all: northbound on BMW's, KLR's and KTM's, etc. That was my first gravel dualsport wave. :)

There must be a dualsport bug going around. I just picked up an '09 DR650 last week. After riding on Saturday, I need to get heated grips installed ASAP. :)

Gravel Roads close by North-West end GTA

If you really want a good test, come up to Hockley Valley Rd. and take 3rd Line North, or 4th line north or south, or 5 line south (dual track). Almost every north/south (and most east/west) roads are gravel - north of 9, west of Airport, east of 10. That is why I just picked up a dualsport...

I try and ride up Mount McKay with a SuperMoto

Ouch! How did you fare after your close encounter with the rocks? That path looks a little worse than my favorite trail that I use to take my FZ1 on.

    feedback on 2003 dr650se

I think that I saw that bike like that on Kijiji. I had even communicated with the seller but I decided to go for a newer bike, just cause. I will hate myself later for passing that one up. I just bought a 2009 Dr650, off of kijiji, with only 2,800kms. It should be in my hands tomorrow. I have...

    Bought a KLR650

I love both of absolutely those two signs too, but I'm riding a FZ1, named Stupid. The more I ride it, the more fitting the name is for the bike and the rider. :D

Hiding Inn on Hockley Valley Road - Is is Closed?

Just rode by today. It is closed. There was a sign leaned against the house/restaurant that saidsomething like , "Finally Retired, thanks for the 15 years of Patronage."

Hiding Inn on Hockley Valley Road - Is is Closed?

Have you tried calling them? I pass there all the time, but hardly ever during what was their normal business hours. Nevermind, phone is out of service.

Street racing. Up 42% this long weekend compared to last year.

I love bill 172. In the country, in the old days, I'd aim at doing no more than 20 over. Now I aim to stay below 30 over. In their hunt, they don't want to miss a chance to get a 50 over, by pulling someone over for doing less than 30.

how long is your commute to work?

About 3kms. I don't get to rack up a lot of kms commuting. But it saves a heck of a lot of money on gas.
