Duster thanks for the reply! I have a policy with them already on another bike so it sounds like I just have to give MTO this policy number as I will be adding this bike to the same policy.
My insurance company will not insure my bike until I have it registered in Ontario. Anyone else have this problem? Will I be able to register it without insurance?
I talked to the US dealer, they said they got a package of information from BMW NA stating this. They said they will type me a letter anyways. How about when our dollar was 0.60 and US shoppers were buying bikes up here? No one complained, all of a sudden the tables have turned and they still...
For those that bought new bikes, when you went to get plates did MTO ask for the recall letter? The only reason I'm asking is that BMW Canada is asking for $500 for that letter! Total bull$hit!
My insurance company is Primmum. It sounds like how it works with vehicles here, just provide them with VIN # and thats about it. The agent didn't seem like it was a big deal. She even said its happening quite frequently this past year or two. I would give them a call regarding the plates...
Just got off the phone with my insurance company. Sounds like it is possible to insure the bike to ride from the states back to Canada. The only issue is plating the vehicle. I called MTO and their suggestion was to get temporary permit form the state you are purchasing from and this will...

Actually I've been reading that BC riders are able to get "binder" of insurance from ICBC to be able to ride the bike home from the states. Here I don't think its possible, but than again I've never asked my insurance company.
Anyone buy a new BMW recently from the states? The dealer wrote me saying that BMW Canada is imposing a $500 charge for the letter to bring the bike back into Canada. Does anyone know what letter this would be and if required at the border? Damn I knew BMW stands for "Break My Wallet" but...
Hey I think I saw you guys at the border! I was riding a K1200S and my buddy a FJR. We were just pulling onto the QEW and you guys were pulling off at Fort Erie.
Re: Less experienced riders out front
Thats assuming that the sportbike rider is an expert braker. Under emergency braking situations I would be willing to bet that those riders with ABS will stop their bike safely more consistently than those riders without ABS.
I prefer idiots in front...
