    Engine stand

I need to fabricate an engine stand for a 4 cylinder motorcycle engine. Obviously it must be robust. My first attempt was based on 1" square steel tubing but it proved to be inadequate. I need some 3/16 or 1/4 steel plate for the next one. I looked high and low but can't find any at a...

Yonge st and Florence Aug 29

As a southbound pedestrian, I have been hit there twice. Be very very cautious at this intersection. Too many (northbound) drivers turning left trying to beat the traffic.

Line boring ( Ariel Square Four was Parkerizing)

After considerable evaluation of suggestions and proposals I had the work performed by Rob Star (GTAM member) who did an excellent job. He removed the bulk of material on a lathe and pressed the bushings into the crankcase. For whatever reason the hole became oval. There were several thou left...

I haven't talked to Ken yet, I recall you mentioning him several years back. I have several leads from an Ariel owners forum I'm also pursuing. Thanks for the reminder.

These bearings came from Draganfly. I won't tell you how much I've spent there over the past few years but its substantial. Fortunately the pound has gone down since Brexit. Just to be clear, the OD of the bearings is fine, It's the ID that requires machining.

Correct, I want to increase the size of the bearing by about .100". The more knowledgeable members of the vintage Ariel motorcycle club (AOMCC) in the UK have this work done in a shop that use the line boring process. There are a number of shops over there that can perform this but shipping...

Line boring ( Ariel Square Four was Parkerizing)

A picture is worth a thousand words especially with a twin crank engine. Top View Front View New bearing to be machined Other side of new bearing. When the bike was built, there were about 4 bearing sizes available: std, +.20, +.40 and +.60. These could and probably were reamed to...

The rods have standard shell type bearings. The bearings on one side of the cranks are ball bearings. The other side is a bronze Babbitt lined bearing. They (Dragonfly) only sells one size of the bronze bearing. It is about 100 thou undersize so it can accommodate regrinds. Save on stocking...

Line boring ( Ariel Square Four was Parkerizing)

All the previous posts on this subject have been archived. There never was a consensus on whether it was suitable for a camshaft. The firm that reground the cam parkerize it (black). I don't know how to retrieve archieved material. Sent from my YOGA Tablet 2-830F using Tapatalk

Line boring ( Ariel Square Four was Parkerizing)

I bought this bike in about 1965. Second owner I believe. It came with crash bars front and rear, leather saddle bags and a sidecar. The previous owners kids pretty much destroyed the sidecar to the extent I didn't even pick it up. It probably came from Percy McBrides on Queen St. This pic...

They did my cam, not cheap but knowledgeable. Lots of lathes in the shop but I must have missed the boring equipment. Henry wasn't there either time I visited. Why do you suggest I talk with him specifically?

Gord can't do the work, basic boring yes but not line boring. (He is doing my valve guides now). Haven't talked to Bondi (sent an email). From their website I don't get a comfortable feeling regarding vintage bikes.

Some of you may remember my posts regarding the suitability of Parkerizing a camshaft for this motorcycle. This work has been done in conjunction with grinding the cam It has taken me about a year and a half to source the remaining parts. Much of the machining is under way. (new valves...

In 2004 ethanol was not the problem it is today. Some engines do not run on certain regular blend. You can not categorically state that if the owners manual says to use it that you can continue using it. Times and blends change. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
