    Zipper repair shops?

If you are downtown, all the clothing and luggage shops use a place called Kaners, which is downstairs below the Nike Store in Yorkville. They have notoriously curt service, but everyone uses them anyway. Do it for teh lulz.

    Belfountain Coffee Closing!

Schomberg is a bit out of the way, but there is a little place called Grackle on the main street that is worth the trip. Finest coffee and baked stuff outside Italy.

Had my first real ride yesterday

Eh, learn to do a burn out on gravel while you are there so you get an idea of how it feels to lose traction, and how to recover from it. Dirt bike guys slide all over the place and manage to stay upright. It's harder with a heavier bike, but the principle is the same: stay upright.

Sharing lanes at a stop light, who goes first?

Since you wouldn't pass another rider in the same lane in an intersection (cars don't count), the one who got there first goes first. If the guy on the right is going to be blocked or boxed by a parked car or traffic, I will let him go ahead. However, there is nothing polite about declining if...

Can you get more money if....

Possibly. If you average it out, that book will probably nets anyone who reads it %15 to %25 on everything for the rest of their lives. If you read it cover-to-cover because of this post, and we ever meet, you might just give me the $20 on principle. The cost of being taught it as a text in a...

Can you get more money if....

Everything you ever need to know about negotiating prices and deals: See this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Getting_to_YES It's on all the good MBA and law school reading lists. An education is incomplete without it.

Town Moto – New gear and accessory shop in downtown Toronto.

Awesome. So checking that out. As far as people complaining about non-bike stuff, a shop has to stay in business, and the way you do that is to have something that everybody walking down the street with $20 (probably $100 these days) in their pocket can buy, and its your own fault if you can't...

traffic officers getting pushed to issue more tickets.

Funny. They have the stats, their performance is being measured by them, but they aren't available? If ever there were a public interest case for freedom of information requests, this would be it. That can't last. Setting up incentives like that for cops is so bad for society. Good on the...

new UK motorcycle legislation.... scary stuff.....

Laws like this come up for approval all the time. Nobody seems to know who writes them or lobbies for them. The legal system has the same problem of the internet, which is that people behave with extra stupidity when they are not held accountable. It's one thing to be free to do so online, and...

need a place to store your gun while riding?

In Canada, we typically store them at home while riding. If you have a club ATT, you can use something like this: http://www.mezzi.com/Wood-Briefcases , of course, you would need a P210 to complete the picture.

The future of motorcycles is 100bhp.

The fallacy in that argument is begging the question in regard to whether one must "need" anything to be free to have it. It's not a matter of need, it is a matter of the freedom to elect to do so. It's hard for some people to understand that there is more in life than the mere "rights" doled...

Question about gear for a new rider

If you want used gear for learning, go to Docs Leathers on queen st w or both locations of EXILE in Kensington market. You may even find something you will wear again. Those shops are great for passenger gear, because a lot of the jackets in the market are ones a non-rider girl won't be ashamed...

    wet streetcar tracks

The worst is the metal grate on the draw bridge on Poulson (Cherry?) near Commissioners. When I go over those things I just pull in the clutch and hope. Before I was confident crossing streetcar tracks, I used to pull in the clutch as well. Eventually I figured out that little lateral twist...

On-coming car in your lane, what do you do?

These are all very good points. The one thing missing is after surviving, one must turn around and hunt the bastard down and ensure he never pulls that again.

    Biker wanted by police

Anyone taking bets for a crackdown on motorcyclists this week? There are lots of these videos out there. Have to wonder why they went to the press with this one. Kid behaving stupidly? Yes. Endangering other careless drivers? Sure. Worth a public moral panic about the evils of speed? Meh. Next.

    Anyone ride through rain storms?

I rode through lots of rain last year here in Toronto and on the road. Ride as though you have no brakes, you can't depend on them or the bike staying upright if you brake suddenly. With few exceptions, drivers slow down and become less aggressive, so in some ways what you lose in traction and...

    custom made chaps

This thread pretty much declines from here, but it is worth adding that Redd Foxx is known to have said something along the lines of, "All those health nuts are going to feel stupid some day, lying in hospital beds, dying of nothing." Ride safe kids.

Friend got into accident - advice needed

Your friend should be aware that there is a scam out there where people literally cause these kinds of accidents to extort money from them. I know someone this happened to, it was an eastern european couple who made a hysterical scene and demanded money even though there wasn't even a dent. The...
