This buddy might be me (Do I know you TheNewDude?) I lost mine off of my blue SV going from Oakville to Toronto on the 403/Gardiner. Would likely still have a rubberized webbing attached to it if it's mine. Though it would have been out there for the better part of a month by now.
Pegasus...

Woah you did THIS?! You're awesome!!
JK, I know what you mean. Happens to us all eventually. Thanks for the words of wisdom though, I will definitely be heading there sometime soon.
Corsara:
FriendlyFoe gave you some great advice. I did that (youtubed) myself and it helped. Here is a bit more info that may add to what you find online.
1- Get a friend to take pics or videos of you and show them to you between tries. You'll be amazed at how far away you are at your...

Well my underlying goal was to gradually push the limits of what I am comfortable doing on my bike and get familiar with how it reacts in hard lean situations within a controlled environment. But I still looked at "touchdown" as a big milestone and was aiming for it.

Thanks...
Just moved up from a 250 to a 650 this season (2nd yr of riding) and am happy to say that I just dragged knee for the first time on Wednesday.
Yes, it was in a parking lot (I know, I know, not the same thing). But still, a really cool feeling that first time you feel the contact. Kinda takes...
Definitely have someone with you who knows bikes. Whether it's from a private sale or a dealer, there's always a chance to get screwed if you don't know what to look for. I found this out the hard way recently.
Yeah, i've read once every 500km (every other refuel) elsewhere too. Ted and Vlad are right that you can't overdo it other than to waste lube and make a mess as you (the OP) mentioned.
Am going down to Florida in late June (~7,000km round trip) and we'll probably lube the chains every evening...
Agreed, there are good dealers and bad ones, just like private sellers. Going dealer doesn't protect you any more, but you often end up paying more for it. Like JD1 said, bring someone along who knows what to look for.
From personal experience, I strongly recommend you bring someone along who knows bikes well. Befriend someone on this forum and buy em lunch to thank em for backing you up for example. I made a mistake of going in on blind trust when I bought my current bike and it turned out the be a real mess...
I think my original post might have been unclear. Who wants to ride AROUND HERE (GTA). All those US destinations are where i'm going during my 16 day trip to Florida.
nobbie48, not sure what you meant about the HumVee. I ride this...
Totally hear what you said Kiwi and you have a valid point.
Just to be a devil's advocate though, according to the HURT report the most common reason for motorcycle accidents is cars not seeing us (no surprise here), and that daytime running lights help to reduce this problem. I know it's not...
If it's just for everyday use, you don't need to drop $1,000+ on the best of the best. That stuff's designed for 200kph impacts on the track. Sure it will protect you great on the street too, but if money's an issue, don't pay for 200kph rated armor when the average street crash is around 30kph...
Yeah I got some secondhand, they work great on an SV650. It can be a little more touchy getting it into the right positioning, but once that is done, it does what it's supposed to do.
The thing about learning how to ride a bike is it's not just the technical part of "press this lever, twist that grip", but also the mindset. Sure you can learn how to use the controls in minutes, and develop some degree of finesse in a few hours of repetition, but what causes crashes is more...
The Ducati demo days are amazing. Went last year at mosport and rode the Monster 1100 and 848. After having experienced that, it was really tough to keep riding what I had lol. The people are great, the route is about as fun as you can get in southern Ontario and the bikes will leave you...
+1 happy customer with the Sena SMH-10. Auto-connects to my bluetooth phone and I play music through my cable to a pocket-held iPod. This thing lasts FOREVER on a battery charge (like 8 hours of active use with music or something like that).
The only thing I can think of that would possibly...
Nope, bike stored in an underground garage and not ridden in the rain since I got it. I watched the entire chain removal procedure from 2 feet away. Ted (Rosy Toes) shows me the rust around the o-rings after he pulled off the chain and said "Oh yeah, that one's done". Again, I'm no chain...
Hello Andrew,
Thanks for being a part of the conversation.
I apologize if the way that I said some of my points gave the wrong impression:
1- I did not mean to imply that the replacement sprocket was damaged or unsafe in any way. By salvage, I meant used and perhaps that is the wrong term...
All fair questions Rich6969,
1- I specifically asked him to clean the bike before delivering it to me and he said yes. I assumed it was a done deal.
2- He said test driving it was against policies before buying and when I didn't like that much, he assured me that because dealers are regulated...
Thanks TekNinja81, you're probably right about having to get the OMVIC involved. Will probably do a BBB review of em too. I don't know whether there is much chance of getting compensated for any of this, but I definitely do not want these guys screwing over any fellow riders.
Just in case...
