New Rider - Still have Questions not answered in Stickies

You say that '600 is a bit overkill for what I need' - and you're probably right, but this doesn't mean you should rule out the 650s. You're probably thinking 'If 600 is overkill, 650 is even worse!', but there's something else going on here: pretty much all of the 600cc bikes around are four...

Board sure is slow/dead after riding season..

This is the time of year when people realize that they only have another month or so left to ride in nice weather and that they probably shouldn't waste time on forums.

    How much for welding gear?

Cool, sounds like the prices involved might be achievable for me. Guess I'm gonna do a lot more reading on this topic over the winter, thanks for all the insight so far as to TIG/MIG/flux core, etc... very useful for me as I'm pretty much a newb in this area.

Do you try to match you helmet to your bike?

Not actively, but I'm one of those people who pretty much just buys everything in black anyhow.

    speedometer off by 10km/h?

Doesn't seem so hard to me, something like this? 1. Put on your GPS speedo and go out riding. 2. Check what reading you get on your normal speedo when your GPS speedo reads 20 km/h, remember it. 3. Repeat for 30km/h, 40km/h, up to whatever speed you normally actually drive the bike (probably no...

    Beginner Bike for Tall Rider?

If you have an EU license, couldn't you just continue to use that? I'm pretty sure you can RIDE a motorcycle with an out-of-province/country license, assuming the license is itself valid... is the problem with insurance, or something? Will Ontario insurance companies only insure people with...

    speedometer off by 10km/h?

On a bike with an analog speedometer, wouldn't it be pretty easy to manufacture a new backing for the speedo that just repositions the notches and numbers to be accurate?

    How much for welding gear?

Thanks for the info... got any sort of estimate for what a basic setup might cost in total? Could something be put together that would work for say 1000-1500$? As far as what metals I wanna weld... I can't give you a 100% answer, yet - I don't know enough about welding to know what metals are...

    How much for welding gear?

How much would it cost to buy a basic welding setup, including whatever tools would be needed for the sort of welding involved in customizing/building motorcycles? Just curious how practical this is, if it's economical maybe I'll give it a shot at some point. ALSO: Is there a law that would...

    Slip on's

In general, any change in the exhaust system (slip on or full system) will probably require some alteration to the amount of fuel or air being received by the engine.

    Spark plug change interval

Wow... reading what some people here are saying they pay for a spark plug change (or how long it takes them to do) makes me really glad to have a GS500... changing the spark plugs costs maybe 8$ and takes 2 minutes tops - maybe 5 if I forgot where I left my spark plug wrench and have to go find it.

Toronto East Court appears to be breaking the law

Sure, if a justice of the peace is present to assist you at that time, then any time during business hours is fine. Nothing in the law requires one to actually be present at the location to assist you, though. Law says if these two things happen: - You go to a court office during business...

Bill C-60, the Citizen's Arrest and Self-Defence Act

That sounds like a contradiction to me.

Toronto East Court appears to be breaking the law

Doesn't sound like they're breaking the law to me - the law just says that certain things occur (conviction struck) if you see a justice of the peace at the courthouse during business hours within the 15 day window. It doesn't say if you go during business hours a justice of the peace WILL be...

Know where the HTA law about license plate is?

Dude, you should get your suspension checked out. There should be ~some~ sag.

winter almost here, will condo SS thefts run rampant again?

Yeah, especially in winter, when the prices of replacements are at their nadir and when (since I'm not likely to be riding much in winter anyhow) I'm unlikely to be bothered by being bikeless for a few weeks while sorting out insurance and finding a replacement. Save the booby traps for the...
