Dumb cager hit my parked bike, insurance write off.
Obviously I could just get another one, but so many bikes, so little time! Figured I should try something else given the opportunity.
In serious shopping mode now.
So after checking with current insurance company (Aviva), the shopping list has been shortened slightly - nothing over 750cc, and some odd exclusions like the Ninja 650:
- Aprilia Shiver 750
- Ducati Monster 696
- Honda CB600F/599
- Kawasaki Versys 650
-...
I know good, knowledgeable mechanics are worth their weight in gold nowadays, but I'm always gonna be highly skeptical of any mechanic that says they know better than a team of engineers at a major manufacturer who designed the machine to begin with. (But yes, engineers screw up often too)
Quick googling does show the first valve clearance check is at 40k kms, so I suppose if it does need an adjustment then it would require some $$$ sunk into it
If this was a little more insurance-friendly, I'd probably be buying this myself. A FZ-09 for under $5k!

I didn't even know there was such a thing as an extension for your M1.
But I think I remember reading before that once your M1 expires once, you can get your M1 again and upgrade immediately to a M2 since you've already passed the mandatory 60 day wait period - am I imagining this?
You should just put out a call for some help on the board, I'm sure lots of people would be willing to lend a hand. Get you back on the road in an afternoon!
I just learned this afternoon that I'm going to have to go back and forth with insurance on the write off payout amount, so haven't quite...
Just using the online quote tool on Dalton Timmis's website, the insurance is within reason (I consider <$2k to be "within reason", obviously less is better). I do ride 2 up with my girlfriend occasionally but for a bike I'm gonna be commuting with daily, I'm not sure something that heavy is...
Well they kind of share an engine, but the big difference is the FZ6 made just about 100hp at the crank, the FZ6R only makes around 70.
Not that I needed that much power in the FZ6, but it sure was fun when I wrung it out :D
Coming from a FZ6, I think a FZ6R would be a downgrade IMO. And I want to try something different, otherwise I probably wouldn't be opposed to getting another FZ6
Not sure if this will come off as spammy, but essentially I'm trying to decide what to buy and I'm having hell of a time trying to narrow it down (yes, what a terrible problem to have :D)
So as someone with only a couple of seasons under my belt and living in Toronto, the obvious restrictions...
You're not gonna go from snail speed to a rocket ship but yes it will make a difference.
You'll also feel better in general not just while on the bike so why not?
I know what the differences are, I happen to own a FZ6 (and haven't heard any issues from either my broker or company, this is my 3rd season on it now)
