I agree it's not likely to happen on Yonge St., but it is possible on quiet country roads where the residents don't expect anyone to behave in such a fashion. Little kid playing in front yard chases ball onto road (not like that has never happened) and bad things follow. As a rider you...
ETR - 2 questions:
1. Do you think the mother of the 5 year old who was killed would feel differently if her daughter was hit by a bike doing 177, rather than a mindless texting drone?
2. Would you feel differently about your own accident if you were hit by a bike instead of a car, given that...
When I lived in Bermuda I had a 90cc scooter - it would carry me, my wife and 4-5 bags of groceries (with some creativity) without issue. Probably a combined 350-400lbs. Don't underestimate the scooter :-)
A more pertinent questions is what type of roads does the OP plan on riding, and what...
Thanks, I usually keep an eye on the rides, but so far haven't been able to get out to meet up. I'm moving to Calgary in a month so things are a bit hectic getting ready, but hopefully before I go I'll get out at least once!
No plans to meet guardrails either. Waiting to pass a large group of cyclists kept my speed down on the way home - I saw them nearing the second set of twisties, but knew I couldn't get around them in time so cruised (at 20kmph) until an opportunity opened up...
No worries there, I know you only look at stuff you want to meet, and speedos and rock faces are not on my list :-) I judge by engine revs only, so usually 3rd gear 4-6krpm on my 250 Ninja. I'm still figuring out the lines so I'm not pushing it (that and my technique still sucks!)

I'm assuming you are talking about Snake Rd. through Waterdown to Plains Rd.? What speeds do you guys do that at? I take it to and from work when I ride and am gradually getting comfortable with the cornering, but I couldn't imagine a spirited ride through there (yet!).

Sounds like TMP just doesn't want spectators for bike racing. I would have thought a small seating area would be available & sufficient for those who just want to watch some racing live. Is there no market as a spectator sport?
Hi all,
I was thinking of going to watch the SOAR racing this Sunday, but have never been to TMP. What are the spectator options there? Just looking over the pit wall, or is there seating (in-laws want to go as well). Anything else relevant would be useful too :-)
Cheers,
Alan
I agree that there are some elements we can control, most of the time. We can choose to be 2 seconds behind the vehicle in front of us in a traffic flow, we can choose which lane we are in, and which part of that lane etc.
Part of my overall situational awareness is to always have an exit...
A million cars on the road and you think you have control?
Having lived and ridden in countries where bikes were far more prevalent, I can honestly say that the average Canadian motorist is just not aware of motorcycles on the road. We are the anomoly, the thing that catches them by surprise...
I did my course the first weekend in April - you know the one with temps just above zero, mostly a rain/snow mix? I now know how a bike handles in conditions likely worse than I would ever choose to ride in, and it was still fun. Just dress appropriately, bring spare gloves (or wear dish gloves...
^^^ This!
Rule #1 - if you're driving/riding something smaller than the jerk behind you, don't do anything to upset the jerk! People can be idiotic and irrational at the best of times, don't goad them into being more stupid than necessary.
