    Implications of lending a bike

Liability will always be covered with an insured vehicle. That's why we pay so much for multiple vehicles in Ontario; no matter who is driving, basic coverage and accident benefits apply. It will ding OP's insurance record, but I don't know if it will look like an at-fault in the same way as...

what part of the GTA has the lowest rate?

My rate area with Intact is listed as Durham/Kawartha, and I live in Pickering. It's at least $800/year less than Scarborough according to quotes. So I'd say if you're looking to keep your commute short, Durham is a good choice (it was for me, I actually moved here specifically for cheaper...

Just bought a used bike and it failed the safety miserably. What do I do?

It's perfectly common to buy used vehicles as-is. I'm with others though, if you don't want to shell out and fix it perfect at a dealership, take it somewhere sensible. Dealerships will nickel and ****ing dime you. I bought a used bike from a friend through a dealership (accommodation sale) and...

    Penalties for concealing plate

You should look into that. IBC outlines minor/major/serious convictions, and all are moving violations. Vehicle issues are entirely separate.

My (and your) life is only worth $85 + $9

The fine is far from the biggest deterrent, we all know that (insurance). Money means different things to different people, and fines hardly act as a deterrent. The difference between a $1000 fine and $600 for a paralegal+fine really isn't much, and even a $3000 fine isn't going to make someone...

My (and your) life is only worth $85 + $9

Let's take a step back and look at this objectively. Accidents happen, preventable accidents happen, stupid people drive, and will continue to drive; whether they get caught or not. You're upset that she: paid a small fine, and got a minor conviction which won't hurt her insurance as much. So...

    Penalties for concealing plate

Yep, I figure that. I ride a cruiser, so the only practical thing I could use this for is, truly, lane filtering, as my bike is no speed demon. I guess the idea is that: 1. No one is going to call my plate in 2. If I happen to filter past a cop in a car, he can't call my plate ahead (probably...

    Penalties for concealing plate

Wow, and straight from Ontario Courts: http://www.ontariocourts.ca/ocj/how-do-i/set-fines/set-fines-i/schedule-43/ 85 bucks for obstruction. Really, why isn't this penalized more? I would think this is a huge no-no...

    Penalties for concealing plate

I happened upon the Aerostitch lane share tool (http://www.aerostich.com/aerostich-lane-share-tool.html) today, and it got me thinking what the penalties might be in Ontario for being caught with one of those. Aside from losing credibility entirely (I'm sure the cop will throw the book at you)...

Bike went down what to do?

You already reported it to a collision centre; your record has that accident. I'm not a lawyer, so take it with a grain of salt, but I'd say at this point you may as well make a claim, since it's the accident that hurts you, not the claim, and that's already on record.

I am unclear on the M1 60 days minimum requirement

I replay my 10-over ticket in my head often. I got it in my car, doing 21 over. I almost wish I had got it on my bike going 44 over, because damn, the consequences are the same anyway.

The bad old good old days

THIS!!! It's one thing to have high costs, and there for charge high premiums. It's another entirely to have a ****ing black box about it all.

Straight Weight Oil - where to buy

I don't understand...do Harley's run straight weight? And even if the supposedly do, why wouldn't a modern car oil be fine anyway, since the tranny/clutch and engine are separate?

I am unclear on the M1 60 days minimum requirement

Frankly, we can't afford insurance after such convictions anyway. The situation is so bad that insurance companies have gained de facto control over suspension of driving privileges.

Ticket: Pass on Right - not in safety - Well here we go!

Policy is that it's not tolerated, but it isn't specifically illegal. It's also not specifically legal in California. The wording of the relevant laws are almost identical, but the policy there is that it's tolerated.

    Darksider - conviction registered

The vehicle was uninsured, and the "...biggest [infraction] was that rear tire...". Seriously? I mean, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt here, and assume that you wouldn't worry about the tire on its own, or in a routine speeding stop (minor stuff) where the rider was polite etc. But is a...

how much will premiums increase after an at-fault accident?

Depends on how much the premiums are already. When I had my G2, I had an at-fault. Insurance was already so high, it only bumped my rates like 240/year

    Left turn lights!

That's a malfunctioning traffic light. You treat it as a four-way stop. Pretty clearly covered in driver's ed. A malfunction is a malfunction; if all 4 directions were stuck red, what then?

    Frusterated

What's "reasonable"? I paid 2900 or so for an '83 GS400 last year, Nordic (facility) through John Duffy. I was 22, had just gotten my M1, had a G as well, but I don't think that even mattered. Liability only, $200k.

How do I bring a motorcycle home

In Europe a lot of them are manual transmissions though. A locked up clutch generates a lot less heat than a stressed out torque converter. That said, a DSG or similar should be just as good for towing as a manual. That, and people learn how to tow, and to be in a lower gear under certain...
