    riding out the dealer

Let see, hit someone and pay for it the rest of your life. Get caught and pay a HUGE fine and forget about getting insurance anytime soon at a reasonable rate. Also, part of our insurance premiums are for extended health care & replacement income coverage. It is NOT worth the risk. $99.00...

Is this the beginning of the end for Harley?

Well I don't know about either statement. Like HD's personally. Would like to have had one but when I was in the market a few years back they were in the middle of such an offensive add campaign I decided against it. I would though like to know what's wrong with my math ...

Is this the beginning of the end for Harley?

I never get it when people quip that. $19k harley, $4k in upgrades, 3 years later worth 14k. $13k yamaha, $1k in upgrades, 3 years later worth $8k ... perhaps if you are looking a percentages of depreciation, but loss of real dollars, the lower priced bike pretty much wins every time.

Is this the beginning of the end for Harley?

We've definitely gotten a little off-topic here, but I'll go with it. I own both a sport/touring VFR and cruiser V-Star 950. Neither bike excels in it's class yet neither do anything particularly wrong. I own a cruiser for community, week-long romps through small towns and secondary roads...

    2014 Bike shows?

The Jan 3 - 5 is the show for all genres. Everything from sport-bikes to cruisers, leather fashion show, custom & vintage showcase. Bigger than the regurgitated one in March. Lots of retail goodies around. The Feb show (manufactures showcase) really doesn't have as many goodies, but does have...

    2014 honda vfr800f

The model's hiring interview ... "you're going to be sitting on a bike" - "yes". "it's going to be at a bike show attended primarily by men" - "yes" "you'll be up on a platform where everyone will see you at all angles" - "yes" "do you have any idea what you need to wear" - "umm .... a short...

    2014 honda vfr800f

Looking at the pics it appears rather generic. I presently own 2 5ths + 1 6th. I dumped an 07 6th because of the VTec transition so we'll see how this one fairs. On my new-for-me one I'll be trying out a PC3/5 to smooth things out a bit. The 800 fits a niche. Not all of us need more than...

    Yamaha Star/VStar Riders roll call...

Yes, I was surprised. In the end of the PA trip, averaged 60 MPG (US Gallon) ... WOW.

    Yamaha Star/VStar Riders roll call...

Yes their shift points are ridiculous. I read in my manual as well. Downhill with a tailwind maybe. Just picked up an 09 Star 950 myself. 2k over the last few days touring PA ... nice bike! Methinks I'll be keeping this one :)

not so direct route to muskoka

Hmm, couldn't save the map. Lakeridge Rd, through Beaverton onto #12. Bypass Orillia just north of Bechin through Udney en-route to Washago #11. At Severn Bridge take Southwood to Bala. After that depends on where you are going but all routes nice once you are there! It'll take a while :)

    suggestions for 600-1000cc sport tourer?

FZ6 is comfy, but a little buzzy right around 110. VFR 5th gen is just a great bike, add heli's to have the same upright riding position. Hands-down a better engine with little to no vibration. Certainly not the buzz you get with in-lines. VFR 6th gen is more complicated but feels more...

    Got my cruiser today..

I personally never really got the oil relocation expenditure. Changed my own oil + filter for 7 years, twice a year. Yes, take the brake + exhaust off, but gives you a chance to clean in behind which you may want to do anyway. Nice ride BTW. Loved mine while i had it.

    Vstar 650 vs 1100

Re: Vstar 650 vs 1100[UPDATE: Bought 1100, Pics of bike attached] Have owned and presently own both. Shaft drive all-the-way when it's an option. Clean & virtually maintenance free. Unless it's an 80's bike and you are a full-on rider, you'd never know the difference. Cleaning the dirt that...

    Scorpian EXO-1000 opinions?

Great helmet. 2 years on VFR. The visor will sometimes not close 100% when on, but you can play around with it a bit. Funny, but always closes when off. Rather streamline (much better than the round lids of the 80's and 90's). I don't find it overly quiet, but as someone suggested, earplugs are...

Anybody with a Sport-Touring Motorcycle that Tours?

Damn that's a fine looking ride. Don't know why it's run under the radar. I've looked at the ZXR1100 in the past but the Zepher appears to have much nicer flowing lines. New though, they are not cheap! Papa's gotta start saving :)

    Advise for a Cruiser

VTX 1300 is a very well-received bike. I put it on-par with but perhaps not quite as much pull as my Star 1300. However, the 1800 is, in this reviewers opinion, not as good. Side-by-side they look similar, the spec sheet reads somewhat equally, but the 1800 was a little on the unmanageable side...
