My understanding from the vfr forums is the 1200's are even more sport-oriented than the 6th gens. They do though look nice (IMO) and the stock seating seems to be more comfortable.
I owned an FJR briefly which was too big a bike for my application, but missy was happy out back.
I'd be concerned with whether any tie-down cleats exist in the van itself. Wouldn't want to be run-over by your own bike. U-Haul has a really inexpensive motorcycle trailer in the rental fleet.
There is but not too many cruisers find their way there.
The Raider guys can chime in, but depending upon what you are looking for, the V Star 1300 is a great highway/cruise tourer whereas the Raiders lend themselves more for bar-hopping. Of course quite a bit of an upgrade dollar-wise as well.
I scored a set of black oem silverado hard bags off eBay a couple weeks back. Was going to use them on the V-Star until I grabbed the Roadie. We'll see in the end which one wins and will wear them.
And yes, "Hard bags are definitely the way to go !". If you ever carry electronics there really...
Which is a testament to nice tone. Traditionally the "Loud" bike gets sent to the back. I picked up another Star the other day as my fun project. A 99 Roadie. Thoughts are replace the rear fender back to stock, Stratoliner wheels & hard bags. Away in storage for the year so we'll have to see...
Sold my Star 950 a few weeks back and in its place are two bikes, one of which is a '04 V-Star 1100; staying in the family!
Won't win any photo-awards for now, but will update with a nicer pic later.
Ninja is a very cool bike. Met up with a VFR club state-side and swapped bikes. Smooth is what comes to mind. Nice fit & finish. I'd say I use but 60% of what the VFR can do. Beyond losing your license or more, both bikes will most likely exceed anything we can or should be doing on any road in...
Loved the Fazer8. Bags though destroy the looks of the bike IMO, but nice ergos and very flickable. FJR is a nice touring/sport bike but around town is a bulbous. I sold and went back to VFR sport/touring. Had my 2-bike plan not been in place, the Fazer 8 was right there.
5th gear starts around 80kms/hour as long as you aren't pushing it (going up a hill, carrying a passenger). Don't need a fuel gauge - 200kms and fill up. If you hit reserve you still have more than enough to hit a gas station.
I second the top speed thing. I've owned the 900 custom as well as many others. No problems at 120. After than, engine vibration/buzziness is the least of your worries - wind will be your #1 issue.
The stock seat's gotta go. For me, the riding position was a little to "up in stirrups" for me so...
Generaly people believe that buffeting is caused by wind coming under the screen from the bottom, aiding in the already present pressure zone behind the screen. Doesn't matter if you raise it beyond your eye level or not. A suggestion of raising the windscreen to just beneath your eye-line, at...
