Shopping list for 2013 track season

Agreed. If you don't go out to improve some element of your riding, you're just wearing out parts. Oh, wait, that was the purpose of this thread wasn't it... more new parts. As you were, lol.

    trailer question

One thing you can do to prolong the life of your wheels is to install a set of bearing buddies (http://www.etrailer.com/Grease-Caps/Bearing-Buddy/BB2441.html). Keeps the grease in contact with the bearings at all times. Got mine from Royal Distributing (see p.286 in the catalogue). Good...

    Motorcycle Towing

Got mine through Motovan, it appears to be the same as the one from Red Trailers (http://www.redtrailers.com/ShowTrailer.asp?id=1) Seems it is a bit taller than the HF unit, but also point to some design differences as well. Have hauled my track bike and a car loaded with gear with no problems...

    Track tires

I've run these at Shannonville (Long track) in expert, and they held very well. Pace was mid 1:50s. They also tend to have good wear for me, especially compared to Supercorsa SPs. OP, what tires did the bike come with?

Shopping list for 2013 track season

Those are good but assume you already have a bike. Here's a related article along the lines I was thinking. It's a bit light, and could use more content, but a good reference point, I think: http://www.doctordanger.com/motorbikeroad/buy_roadbike.htm And a less related but FAR more...

Shopping list for 2013 track season

Might be a good time for a sticky on "Beginner's Guide to Buying your First Track Bike"? There's lots of info in this forum and others, but they often get side tracked with other topics (tires, warmers, etc.) Quick search and I couldn't find a specific thread on this specifically. Anyone?

    Opinions on beginner bike choice?

I agree with what has already been said. There is no right/wrong, just preference. Few years ago I bought a prepped 02 GSXR600, and am now building a 2010 GSXR750 I hope to race in AM Superbike in the future. Even an old(er) SS will get you to the front of expert category with enough skill...

    Fox shock rebuild

OK, I may be recalling incorrectly that shops can do shock oil/spring changes but rebuilds require more technical wizardry, such as shock dynos, revalving, etc. at places like Accelerated Tech. Thanks for the info.

    Fox shock rebuild

I have the same in my race bike. Any shop will be sending it out to a specialist so you shouldn't have any trouble getting someone to do the work.

    suggestions for 600-1000cc sport tourer?

Hahahaha. No, redline isn't stratospheric but the will get to 8500-9500. And getting there isn't boring. Have had mine for 4 years now (F800S), tracked it 10 times and had absolutely no problem staying at the front of the intermediate group on my OEM Metzeler M1 tires. (I have since obviously...

    Winter storage with no garage

Saw this recently online, but don't know who sells them. Would definitely give a bit more peace of mind if storing your bike outdoors?: http://www.vac-bag.co.uk/index.php?_a=product&product_id=5

    U-Haul motorcycle trailers - First-hand experiences?

The mileage savings is a really strong argument, my first 2 years of track I UHauled my bike and gear to SMP about a dozen times each summer - with a Honda Civic Sedan! Almost a full tank just to get there, so estimated it cost me over $50 in extra gas per day.

    Race license? SOAR, RACE?

That's why most don't do all weekends in a season. But yeah, new tires, registration, Friday practice and incidentals add up fast. If you're just starting, you don't have to buy into the whole season. Try a weekend, then see if you want to do another. My guess is you probably will, lol.

Heading to Shannonville tomorrow looking for wet track advice

I did my FAST Phase 2 in the rain (read: street tires, no warmers), and thought it was an excellent experience. So you don't get to WOT, but learning what you do have available for traction, etc., is still much safer than on the street. You just have to approach the situation with a different...

    Race license? SOAR, RACE?

Once you're there you'll find a few :) The racing community is really friendly and more experienced racers are often very happy to drag you around the track, talk about setup, strategies, etc., as long as you are sincere. And comping a few drinks once the day is done doesn't hurt, either!
