The Dragon is great -- and so is making new friends...
But not sure they mix...
My first trip down was with a group I met on the 'net...
Of 12 riders, two bikes ended up wrecked...
The one guy crossed the yellow line and hit another rider head-on...
Both bikes were wrecked and the other...
If you are flexible as to what you are looking for, I have received some INCREDIBLE deals on closeouts at:
www.extremesupply.com and www.motorcyclegear.com
http://www.storage-mart.com/faq/general-self-storage
The site says some of their locations allow use as workshop and there are a number of Toronto location -- not sure if Toronto locations allow it though -- probably worth a call...
Last bike was a 'strom -- 2005 DL1000.
Bought it while living in the Yukon -- a better fit than my current ZX14 for the roads up there.
In hindsight, the wee-strom would have been a better choice. Lighter and better fuel economy.
As for engine issues of the earlier models -- see here...
The tail of the dragon is fun... but I am not sure I want to run it again... too many idiots coming the other way (including truckers)... I even saw a similar incident happen right in front of me during my last trip down (but bike-on-bike)...
Qwest on sale at motorcyclegear.com (US$274):

Looks like a bit of an idiot, amongst others...
But the reason why our insurance is so high has more to do with the organized exploitation of the system -- not only by organized groups of fraudsters -- but moreso by corporations that have identified opportunities to exploit for profit. The...
I have heard people complain that back packs act as a sail in crosswinds, and can cause additional injuries in an accident -- but there certainly seem to be more and more people using them. Personally, I find they make me sweat. With my previous bike I did the top case thing - often with my...
Not only is wet (from water) track slippery enough -- but the TTC "greases" the track at strategic locations (including where street cars turn) to limit squeeling:
The TTC uses environmentally friendly grease that is automatically dispensed at strategic points along the tracks—both subway and...
There are some incredible brand/model-specific communities on the web.
I recommend you find one, seek their advice/instruction, and learn to wrench yourself.
While not the shortest path from now to riding - it will serve you WELL in the long run.
At least that was my experience.
I have had great luck with closeouts from: www.extremesupply.com
Ironic though, because my dream jacket was the GP-R in black and green (the jacket you just sold) - but I wasn't willing to pay full price...
I am concerned for you, not only for latent back/neck problems, but for the upgrades...
Included on your insurance?
If not, thinking you may have to consider a civil suit...
Exactly... takes NO time to learn how to make it go... but a lifetime to master how to make it truly dance...
Keith Code's A Twist of the Wrist and A Twist of the Wrist II really helped me to take it to the next level (with lots of practice testing new techniques and limits)...
I rode to San Diego and back a few years ago (via Deal's Gap - ie. a SCENIC route)...
Stopped for gas, and at or about 1/2 tank to stretch...
And every once in awhile stood in the pegs as cruising down the interstates...
Raised some eyebrows, but I made good time and had some fun on the...
Lower numbers and sizes of claims will reduce rates - but this is unlikely to happen anytime soon.
It is a matter of "agency cost." Insurance companies don't care that rates are high, as they still get there allowable rate of return regardless. Actually going after the fraudsters on any scale...
Not sure what your age is, but if you are 25+ I second choosing a used Katana.
My first bike was a 2001 Katana 750, and I am about your size.
The ergos are great for a big guy. I rode mine all over North America -- including Deal's Gap and the Pacific Coast Highway.
But you may want to...
I am only 6'2" - but 36" inseam and 37" sleave...
My first ride was a Katana 750 (rode it all over North America from Deal's Gap to Death Valley).
Next was a DL1000 (VSTROM) - lots of comfy miles there too! But for a first bike, I would recommend the wee-strom (DL650) instead.
Current ride...
