Anything that is high performance, will require more maintenance. A V-strom is anything but high performance....

Go talk to a custom bike guy. You'll never know what your project will cost, till you ask. Ever bike will be different. There are a ton of custom shops around. Do some research, find a respected one. Trevor Daly from Onespeed does some pretty awesome work, that's where I'd start.

Of the ones you chose, the FZ07 is the best. Looks great, handles well, comfortable. I test rode a bunch of nakeds before getting a Monster. In my opinion, the monster had the most "character" as some put it. It's loud, rude, and aggressive! But also quite comfortable. It's got top notch brembo...

Don't think these are the same suits. I believe they're made of the same material (Schoeller Dynatec) as the Rokker jeans, which is quite slippery, but incredibly abrasion resistant. It has been used in chainsaw pants for years in Europe (came to N. American 15 yrs ago??). Thin, light...

There were lots of 4 stroke dirt bikes in the 70's and 80's. Unless this 13yr old has been exposed to bikes early on, a 2 stroke mx bike is a terrible idea. The power of today's bikes, are far greater than the ones we rode. And some of them were terrifying! I was 13 when I rode my brother's...

If he's 13 and never ridden a bike, a 2t is a bad idea. 4 strokes are much more forgiving. 2 strokes, not so much.
